2019 Advance w/ 20" + Michelin CrossClimate SUV = Awesome

After 30K I finally replaced the stock Goodyear RS-A tires last week on my 2019 Advance. I travel in winter conditions during hunting season (Upper PA and Buffalo NY = cold/wet/snow) and also wanted better handling. Didn't feel any love for the RSAs and went with the Michelins.

So far, I have managed to put nearly 200 miles on them. What a world of difference!! I have tried to take it easy, with limited hard cornering/braking, (very difficult with the RDX!) but my ride is light years compared to the RS-As. In comfort mode, whether on the highway or backroads, it actually feels similar to my old Cadillac STS. No more jarring when going over aberrations on crappy NY road surfaces. Feels like the suspension is really dialed in. When driven, they really deliver in whatever mode I have set. Very predictable and nimble.

Feels like I'm finally driving a performance SUV at last. Will report back once I get into some wet weather.

Glad to hear a happy review of the Crossclimate - I think I'm going to swap them in once spring arrives so I can run a single set of tires.

Finally took my RDX on a 300+ mile trip to out hunting camp in upper.PA last week. I feel the CCSUVs were definitely quieter/smoother than the stock RS-As and the handling is superb no matter the terrain. Our land is located on top of a 2500 ft peak. The road surface is a gravel/dirt road, which for now, doesn't have many potholes. We have a 15 mile ride to town for shopping/diesel etc., so I volunteered to make the trip all week!

Got some rain later in the week and even 2+ inches of snow. My RDX was a joy to drive all week. Glad I finally upped my tires.

The RS-A's are notorious for being a lousy tire. They came on the '19 RDX A-Spec I owned, BUT, I knew about them and had them removed and sold to the dealer..with wheels,
and put my own choice of wheels and Mich. tires on before I took delivery.
Even today...just talked to my friend at Tire Rack...and he said "customers are always complaining about those tires!"

I can't understand why Acura is still putting them on....they must have negotiated a crazy low cost to supply them....and or, bought a ship load of them!!

The Michelins CC2 is a new generation and only available on sedans. I got two pairs on our 2014 Honda Accord Sport. The upgrade was night and day in terms of ride and comfort. Less road noise as well. I got these tires from Tirerack back in May 2021 and mobile installer did the install in my driveway.

For the A-Spec with 20” tires you can’t get the CC2. CrossClimate SUV is available for small trucks and CUVs/SUVs. I also got two pairs install in July this year. I put on 700+ miles while on vacation and came out with similar experience. I threw away the old RS-A tires with less than 14k miles on them.

The CC SUV tires are well worth the money. They looked great as well. I mentioned the review in another Stock tires thread.

I just checked Michelin website. The CC2 for 255/45-20 is new. Also checked TireRack listed as new. What’s weird is when I search for my 2019 Aspec AWD OEM tires only the CC SUV tires came up. The CC2 is priced lower by a few dollars compare to the SUV version. The speed rating is W(168 mph) as opposed to V(149 mph).I need to research more for the differences in price.
  • 255/45ZR20 105W XL
  • UTQG: 580 A A
  • Eco Focus: Michelin Total Performance
  • Style: Blackwall
  • Severe Snow Service Rated
Per Tire:
$261.64

Both tires are good. I had CC2 on my Honda Accord Sport. They look identical. Aside, the UTQG ratings are as follow for thread wear, traction and temperatures grades.

CC2: (thread wear/traction/temperatures.. high to low: AA, A, B)
UTQG: 640 B A

CC SUV:
UTQG: 580 A A

While the SUV version has higher speed rating and slightly better traction thread wear is lower (580 vs 640). The threadwear should last for 60k miles for me. The newer CC2 might have better compound to improve thread wear value by 60 points.

Congrats on the tires. You can’t go wrong with these tires.

UTQG ratings are never accurate. Estimate of tread wear at best.

I have a question. Did you notice these tires picking up small rocks on gravel road? We live two miles down a gravel road and excessive rock throwing is something to avoid.

the grooves on the cc2 vs the 1 are wider i think (you can search for side by side)

theres alot of construction by me currently and i see rocks in my cc2’s regularly

but no ‘pinging/tossing’ while in motion

I so see an occasional rock, but no where as much as the stock Goodyears. They were a rock magnet.

True just like anything related to specs it all comes down to how you drive. The ratings are for information. Rotate the tires and alignment to avoid uneven wear. This will make the tire last longer. I can easily put on 60k on these tires.
