Vibration when stopped in reverse while engine is cold

From day one, my RDX has had a low frequency vibration that I can feel and hear inside the cabin while stopped in reverse only when the engine is cold. It doesn't vibrate in drive while the engine is cold nor does it vibrate after the engine warms up. The vibration is severe enough that it rattles the interior.

I have this same issue since day 1 also. Is it still doing it and if so have you taken it to the dealer?

See the following TSBs, depending on if you have 2WD/FWD or SH-AWD:

TSB 18-062 - 2019 RDX: Booming Noise and Engine Idles Rough on Cold Starts

TSB 18-063 - 2019 RDX: Engine Idles Rough on Cold Starts

Unfortunately, I had so many problems with my RDX that I got rid of it after only 3.5 months. The vibration persisted every day over that period. I never took it to the dealer because that involved taking a day off work and losing a day's pay for each repair.

It looks like Honda now has a fix for this particular problem, but I got tired of being a guinea pig for the RDX and waiting around while they issued fixes. Life's too short to not be completely happy with what you drive every day!

I have A-Spec AWD with this issue, but not in the VIN range. I am waiting for parts (two weeks already) to fix loose rear seat and rattling noise rear passenger interior light, so will mention this to the Service Adviser.

Under Affected Vehicles, the VIN range is listed as ALL for both TSBs.

Thank you for the TSB info. I already made an appointment with my dealer letting them know about this TSB and of course I have to leave the car because they need to replicate it. I will let you know what the dealer says on Tuesday.

If the sound and vibration was as extreme as it was in my FWD, replicating the issue won't be a problem - just let the vehicle sit overnight, start it up, then immediately shift into reverse (with your foot FIRMLY on the brake pedal or it'll shoot backwards!) and the dash vibrates and rattles and it sounds like someone with a trunk full of 18" subwoofers just pulled up beside me.

Yeah mine is bad. It vibrates everything and I have to have my foot on the brake pedal firmly. I'm sure they will have no issues replicating because has been doing it since day 1 .

what’s up with your seat? My rear driver side seat back when locked makes a rattling noise when you hit bumps, and if you grab it you can shake it a bit forward and back and make it rattle. Is that what yours is doing? It’s like it’s not in there tight

My passenger seat shifts. Was at the dealership yesterday, waited 4 hours, only to find out someone either ordered or sent the drivers seat track and not the passengers. We waited over 4 weeks for the wrong part too.

I took my RDX and showed them the TSB and they said my RDX was not in the VIN range even though my RDX is doing the exact same thing. They didn't do anything. Nothing they can do. Of course they couldn't replicate it since the car was already warm. I told them to keep it and try it in the morning. It should do it since it will be in the 30s. Tired of the Acura dealership saying there is nothing they can do when I have had a few issues with this car .

So, did it do it this morning? Mine wasn't ambient temperature related - it was engine temperature related. If the engine was "cold" (whether it was 32°F or 90°F outside), it vibrated.

I finally got my RDX back and the service bulletin could not be done. They said it will not work and was incompatible with my 2019 rdx .That was from Acura/honda. However the service director from the dealership did experience the issue in my car. He did mention Acura is aware and they are working on on a fix. Hopefully he was not BSing me .

Just got back from the dealer and was told that they could not do the TSB 18-063 on my A-spec AWD, because the car did not accept it. The Technician came out and told me that it is possible that the software roll out is slow in process, so just come back in about 3 months and he would check again.
No, this does not make sense to me...

Subin,

Similar to what they told me. My RDX has been doing this exact symptom on the tsb but was not in the VIN range. They didn't even attempt to update software because Acura told them it won't work. They did say they are aware of it and are working on a fix. Hopefully he was being truthful.

For those who are also have this issue, but not in the VIN range, please send email to Acura https://www.acura.com/contact-us , hoping that if enough of us complaint, they would fix this issue (and others).

The TSBs were revised. Instead of the previous VIN range listed as ALL, now the VIN range is listed as See SOFTWARE INFORMATION for VIN application.
