Oil maintenance question

I just bought a used 2019 ADV package RDX on Tuesday and the oil maintenance life said 40% left. Yesterday it said 30% and now today it says 15%. I have put less than 100 miles on it since I purchased the car on Tuesday. Is this normal? Does this fluctuate this much that quickly? Seems very odd. According to the carfax report the last maintenance was done around 10,000 miles (serviced at an Acura dealer). The car has 15,500 miles on it right now, so i guess it could need an oil change but to have it drop 25% in two days seems odd to me. Any suggestions?

Since you bought it used, I would just do an oil change anyway, so that I won't be guessing.

ROB175, I hope not too, good thing it is under warranty! I do know the history of the vehicle to a degree, it was a company leased vehicle to an employee that was on lease for one year and the employee left the company so they turned it back in. It was serviced twice at an acura dealer for oil changes & regular maintenance over the 15k miles.

The oil change maintenance interval is based upon miles driven, time, and driving conditions. AFAIK The exact calculation is unpublished. The MM also "bundles" other services to minimize trips to dealer service, and at 15,000 miles it may be due for a rear differential fluid change ( code 6 ) if it's equipped with SH-AWD.

It does seem strange that it dropped so fast, but if it was being driven a lot of highway miles, and then it sat and/or had many short drives, I suppose its calculation could be catching up with the altered use.

I agree, I would do the service interval and see what happens going forward.

The MM system does NOT monitor any physical change of the engine oil, it just predicts it.

So I went and turned the car on again after the last check a couple hours ago and it is back to 30%. Interesting, not sure if the ambient temperature had anything to do with it? It is a bit cold for us here in Atlanta this morning (33 degrees). I guess i will just monitor it. thanks for replies everyone!

I’m a little surprised the dealer from which you bought it didn’t do an oil change and reset the monitor before putting it for sale. They typically detail them, change oil, etc. It’s a customer experience thing, making it “new” to the next buyer, somewhere in the realm of filling it up with gas before delivery. What a nice find, though, a used 6-7 month old lease turn in that you basically know the story on.
