Lockpickers ruined driver door lock

Hey All - what probably isn't such an uncommon issue in LA, someone tried and successfully lock picked their way into my 2019 RDX... luckily there was nothing valuable inside and I was able to chase them away before they could do anything to the car, however they totally messed up the drivers side exterior key hole. I cannot insert my car key into this at all and the only way to get in is using the remote. In terms of getting this fixed, is my best bet having the dealership replace the lock? Will I need to get a whole new key and remote? Any advice would be appreciated as I don't want to be taken advantage of at the dealerships. Thanks!!

Insurance was made for times like these. Contact your insurance and see where they recommend you take it

I expect that I will be out of pocket for most of the damage with insurance deductibles so was hoping to see whether anyone had seen this type of damage or had a recommendation on the extent of the repairs needed so I don't get taken for a ride by the dealership

I would just get it replaced by the dealer. The keys supposedly come with identifying codes that can be used for replacements, but I don't know if the original dealer is the one who has these or if they are kept "on file" somewhere. I didn't receive it with my car, so I assume my dealer has them.

Also, you should have chased him off with a gun.

Thanks I will likely just take to dealer. Didn't have a gun on me but my big dog and me approaching scared him off, didn't set the dog on him as in California I probably would have been the one at fault

That's true. You'd do better in California buying drugs and doing them with him in solidarity.

This happened to my 2020 RDX at Manasota Beach, Venice, Florida. Thief got in and unfortunately got my wife’s money and credit cards, no other damage. BUT THE ALARM DID NOT GO OFF….WHY????? I had it repaired at the dealer for under $300. Replaced drivers door lock cylinder, cut two new keys and put back on the original fobs and also replaced the glove box lock cylinder. Tech told me that once the lock cylinder turns it disables the alarm BUT WITH TODAYS TECHNOLOGY YOU WOULD EXPECT THE ALARM TO GO OFF IF A FOREIGN OBJECT, NOT THE KEY, IS USED TO TURN THE LOCK CYLINDER. The car should be designed to recognize the RF chip with the fob and access key. If not, the alarm should sound. VERY UNHAPPY. THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN!! LEAVE NO VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR!
