Safety on RDX locking system
Safety on RDX locking system
I had a bad experience with my wife X5 where she was able to lock herself out the car with my daughter and keys left inside.
It happened far from me and far from home, so she called the FD and they broke the window.
she might have pressed by mistake the lock button on the fob when she was putting the baby in the car seat, left her purse (with fob) inside, closed the rear door and then unable to open the car again.
The Bmw keyless doesn't allow to lock the car from the door handle if the fob is inside, but you can lock a Bmw with the fob and leave it inside, not able to open the doors again.
Considering we would like to buy an RDX, I wonder if there's a safety feature to avoid that scary experience.
Thanks

Yes it's safe
You cannot accidentally get the keys locked in the car. The key fob central lock wouldn't work if any of the doors are open. So in that way it is safe. But you can lock the key in the car by pressing in the central lock button on the driver door (even if the door is open). The chances of that happening are very less and it has to be intentional. I tried it both ways and this was the only way I could lock the key in (of course I kept my windows open during testing
).
).
On a related note...if your are like me and occassional want lock the car and not take the large key fob with you you can do this by using the physical key inserted in the fob to lock the door (the old fashion way). The car will stay locked and you can stick the physical key in pants, swim trunks etc. and it is much smaller, lighter and water proof.
