Dust infiltration 2021 RDX tech.

I may be the only owner on this forum that lives on a gravel road but I’ll ask anyway. Does anyone else have dust sucking in past the rear passenger door seals? It’s coating the door trim and lower seat. It’s not as bad as our 2017 Ford Edge which was just horrible, but really any amount is just pathetic!!!!!

i've done quite a few dirt and gravel roads and have not seen that problem. Adjust the door striker for a tighter seal?

Thanks for the reply. I’ve considered adjusting the strike plate but I’m a little worried about miss alignment if I do. A two mile daily commute on gravel would likely be a better indicator of this problem.

And have you noticed that the rear window becomes completely covered in dust? But that the dust mostly clears away if you can get some speed on a paved road?

Now that you mentioned it I think the back glass might stay cleaner than our previous SUVs. My wife was remarking on how the backup camera stays cleaner yesterday. I should try to post pictures of the dust on the door seals and trim. Of all the vehicles we have owned in thirty plus years of living here the only ones with this problem have that stupid design of making the door part of the fender lip.

May be hard to see the dust on the seal .

More dust on the seal.

Trim getting filthy.

If the seats were black it would be really ugly.

I've recently gone down a 20+ mile dirt/gravel road which completely covered the rear of my 21 Advance in dust and had no intrusion of dust inside. Something is not right with your rear doors. Bent doors? Not properly set latches?
My outer door seals on the door are dusty, but the inner door seals on the car are clean so it is sealing.

Interesting, I wonder if your hvac system was pulling in fresh air and pressurizing the cabin? I suppose there is a way to keep it from switching to recirculate. I’m pretty sure keeping it set on fresh air would help this problem but remembering to check that is not going to work for my wife. I tried to move the strike plate today but the backing plate didn’t want to move.

Buying a car that the closest dealership is two and a half hours away makes dealing with anything difficult. Bad move on my part I guess but I’ll have to try getting them to fix it. Thanks for the input.

Unless I am misunderstanding your point, I think you have this backwards. Recirculate would keep recirculating the inside air, fresh would bring in outside air, (along with the dust) right?

No, fresh clean air pulled in from the front will pressurize the cabin and help keep dust from seeping in. Now if you are fallowing another vehicle on a dusty road you are correct. I own a 02 Ford super duty that if you turn on recirculate you will quickly start breathing dust.
