Clunky RDX Suspension Noise during Colder Temperatures

Hey everyone!

Has anyone experienced clunky suspension/suspension making noise when going over bumps during colder temperatures? It's getting colder here in Toronto, and I noticed that the suspension, typically the front, makes a clunky noise whenever I go over bumps. For reference, I'm in a 2019 RDX Elite (Technology Package in the U.S., I think).

If this has been a known issue, I would appreciate it if someone could direct me to the thread or explain how they solved the problem. Thanks in advance!

Hey I’m facing the same issue (Elite model and in Toronto) I have scheduled an appointment with the dealership next week. They wanted me record the noise and show them. Will keep you posted. I also have some noise from heater fan during cold starts in the morning.

Just had my 2020 in today for this problem. First time we brought the car in (Dec 2022) they "didn't hear anything ". Today they replaced both front lower control arms and did an alignment. Noise is gone.

Frequently they will deny a problem at first but keep bringing it in and they concede the problem is real.

The quote from my service advisor was: “I have tech XXX
working on your car, he’s done many lower control arm replacements on car like yours”

Squeaking or Creaking from Front of Vehicle Going over Bumps

I experienced the same problem with mine (2020 RDX Base SH-AWD).
I took it to the dealer about 3 times before it was resolved. Last time I took it in, I provided the TSB and they replaced both lower control arms.
NY has gotten warmer, have not heard the noise ever since. Will definitely keep an ear out for it when it gets cold. See below for TSB. DL PDF and show it to the dealer. Hope this helps.

https://www.tsbsearch.com/Acura/20-025
It effects specific VIN ranges on 2019 and 2020 models. DL PDF for more details.

I had such a problem. This is factory low quality lower arms. They are the ones who make these sounds, especially on speed bumps. I sprayed silicone grease on the silent blocks of the lower levers and all the sounds were gone.

UPDATE - Clunky RDX Suspension Noise during Colder Temperatures

Hello everyone! I finally got around to getting my RDX serviced for the clunky sound. It was straightforward as I referred the TSB to the service advisor, and they knew exactly what I was referring to (they mentioned it was a common service done to 2019-2020 RDXs).

The dealer had to make an exception for the service and cover the service under the 'Major Components - 5 years / 100,000km' warranty as my 'Distributor's Warranty - 4 years / 80,000km' had expired. I also had to pay for an alignment after replacing the lower control arms.

Overall, smooth and quick process. I recommend anyone with a 2019/2020 RDX to have the lower control arms serviced before their warranty expires, or else it's a costly job (they estimated over C$1200).

Below is the parts list in case anyone needs it.

Thanks again for the helpful advice!

2022 ASpec/Advance AWD. 18k miles. I’ve started noticing a squeaky sound coming from the left front when driving slowly over speed bumps in the parking lot.

I’ll mention it to the dealer the next time I’m in for maintenance but I didn’t see 2022 on the TSB for this.

Getting mine replaced in a couple weeks. Sounds like an old mattress. 22 RDX

This is an old thread, but I started experiencing the same noise once again even though my lower control arms got replaced 4 years ago. I dont think I got the latest part update, will have to go to the dealer and complain, they always never able to hear anything.

Glad I stumbled on this because having the exact issue with our 19, it's been driving me crazy but at least now I have a reference point.
Guess I'll jack it up and start with the drivers side control arm since that's where I think I'm hearing the noise.

you will just swap it?

I think the latest parts fix it. Unfortunately, Acura had made several revisions for lower control arms in attempt to resolve this issue. I did get updated part, but its not the latest revision.
the noise is more evident in freezing temp and you have to find a speedbump or a bumpy road.

I'll get under it to see and probably just order the parts and then get it aligned at my buddies shop. I doubt my local dealer will fix it for free and I don't even have a relationship with them since I do all the service work myself.
Yup that's exactly the conditions I'm hearing it, cold here in MD and like backing out of the garage, we have a slight bump and it's always there I hear it the most.

My 2019 A-Spec has been making the same noise, and since I'm no longer under warranty, I’ve decided to handle it myself. To be fair, the dealer would likely have given me nothing but problems. Despite my love for Honda and Acura vehicles, the dealership experience is disappointing—it’s never felt like a luxury experience with Acura. When I owned a BMW, any warranty issue meant a loaner car was ready immediately, and I had zero complaints about the service advisors. I’ve always done my own repairs, and I just received the parts needed to fix this issue myself.

I was able to reproduce it and tech heard it, but after I dropped off a car for repair, tech played dumb and said it was the spare tire making noise that he had tightened. My jaw dropped from such a lie.

It was total BS, and the car made the same creaky noise the moment I took it back. Acura service is horrible, they will want you to just give up after you spend so much of your time going there. I have a job, I cant be wasting my time with this BS

yep, just in case. Btw, spraying at-205 at lower arm bushings did the trick for me, no noise for 1 month.
I know it will be back, but 1 month is impressive

Yes, I bought accessory kit called spare tire.
you can spray at-205 at your lower control arms. Turn wheels all the way left and then right. I can post pic of the location to spray, removed squeaking noise for me

Well, this damn noise back now that temperatures
are down. Its not necessarily happening at speed bumps,
its usually when road is bouncy and struts have to flex. The dealer will give the usual BS that they cant hear it 😡

I am not sure if its lower control arm, could be struts.
when I had TSB done, it was reproducible at speed bump, but not this…

Spraying AT205 does make some difference, but it's temporary, not a real fix, but seems to do the magic for some time

OEM part probably has crappy rubber in the bushings. Maybe time for Dorman to make a better version lol...
