Brake Hold Issue

I stopped at the Ted light, Brake Hold is engaged. It suddenly accelerated by itself, I did not touch the gas pedal.

Does anybody have this problem?

Did you have the Auto Engine Stop engaged as well? I found that it times out after a time and then causes what you described to occur.

It’s on normal mode

i didn’t change anything, just turn on my car, turn on Brake Hold. I think by default the engine cylinder deactivation is On. I wish there’s a way to turn that off & Beake Hold On without pressing the button every time you start the engine

I had that happen to me when I had Hold and Auto Stop on at the same time, and it was a longish stop. Don't use them both together. I even stopped using auto hold altogether, not seeing much point in it.

I was reaching to get my food at Taco Bell when I first got the car, and the engine came on and I started going forward, freaked me the heck out, could of easily of damaged my car had I not caught it quick enough and spilled the pop I was grabbing

It happens pretty regularly for me. Auto start stop used with brake hold and the engine starting back up (without me touching anything, just a long stop light) disengages the brake hold and the vehicle starts rolling forward at idle. This is a safety recall item if you ask me...imagine someone in the crosswalk crossing right in front of you.

This actually happened to me, which is why I no longer use brake hold. Reported to Acura, ....crickets.

I tried brake hold. Decided it wasn't for me, as my wife's car doesn't have it. I think it would be dangerous to get used to it, and then forget when I occasionally drive her car. I have no problem holding my foot on the brake at lights. I've been doing it for over 50 years That doesn't mean I don't appreciate other safety features.

Same applies to a couple of other convenience features as well. 'Walk Away Auto Lock Doors' and auto shifting to Park when turning off the ignition are a couple that have caught me when switching vehicles so I try not to use them at all.

heh, yes! The only time I drive my wife's car is occasionally on weekends, when she is with me, and I have forgotten to lock it a few times. OOPS! But, there is nothing of any value in it to worry about, and if it gets stolen....well, it just means we get to buy a new car for her, which she usually resists.

Some how, I never forget to put her car in park before pressing the start /stop button while shutting it down, as it has the "old fashion" lever shifter. I'll have to remember to try leaving it in drive and pushing the button to see what happens, if I drive it this weekend. I drive her's less now as I always want to drive the RDX!

Every manufacturer seems to handle what happens when you hit the start/stop button differently. I drove my daughter’s Pacifica last weekend, it has a dial for its electronic shifter, and as I do in the RDX, I just hit the start/stop button without shifting to park, and it flashed a message to put the car in park first.

In order for Brake Hold to work properly a certain brake pressure threshold must be met and the vehicle totally stopped. I’ve had the OP’s experience many times. The green light in the panel must be lit to verify it’s working properly; not just depressing the brake. I don’t think it’s a flaw. The feature should be explained by the salesperson upon delivery, but must of us here know more about cars than salespersons do. BTW, I hate Auto Stop and I turn it off every time I drive.

Brake Hold & Stop-Start System Problems

I have the same major issues with both systems.

Brake Hold will release on its own and has nearly hit bikers, pedestrians, and other vehicles crossing in front. Extremely dangerous and potentially damaging.

Stop-Start system automatically turns on engine without pressing the throttle. Less dangerous but also am extremely significant issue.

Brake hold issue, possibly a lemon issue

I am having the same problem, break hold release on its own. I am thinking this could be a lemon.

Anyone have any update on this? There has been no fix it is still happening when the manual states that brake hold should stay active for 10 minutes once engaged by coming to a complete stop.

I never had the car accelerate on its own when using brake hold, however when the auto stop-start restarts the engine, there is a small lunge. The lunge is unsettling so I got in the habit of completely disabling auto stop-start every time I started the car.

I HAVE, however, had the brake hold release the brakes on its own with no foot near the pedal and auto stop-start disabled. It only happened 2 or 3 times while I had the RDX but I think it was 2-3 times too many.

Searched this thread to add that I just experienced this issue this week: Auto Shut Off restarted the car that was on Brake Hold, and the car started creeping forward. Lesson learnt - use one or the other feature, but not both. Wouldn't this be a software fix that Acura can easily send through? Considering the safety risks, this should be on top of their list.

I've been experiencing this a lot with my 3G RDX. It sounds like there isn't a fix if people are still experiencing it?
