PRI Intercooler

Anyone have a 2019/20 that installed the PRI Intercooler? Since the factory Intercooler kit tsb is back ordered am thinking of installing the PRI. I am hoping that it eliminates the Limp Mode in the rain issue when getting on the throttle and perhaps a HP boost. Anyone?

I wouldn't recommend doing this for the goals you mentioned. IMHO, stock intercooler does a decent job as long as you don't stress the engine hard constantly (at least the intake temp after WOT looks reasonable to me), so any power gain is going to be minimal. You may or may not get better throttle response, because although the volume of PRL intercooler is larger, it supposedly also flows better. IMHO, you only need to consider PRL intercooler if you have other mods and found IAT to be too hot.

Limp mode is another story, the issue seems to be flow and pressure related judging from the fix. I rather trust Acura had done their analysis and wait for the new intercooler to be back in stock, but I read you have not gotten any love from dealership and corporate, so I can see why you want to go this route.

@sonyfever ‘Thanks for your opinion. I will wait until the dealer has the new Intercooler kit in stock and go from there. In the meantime I will refrain from punching it in rain….:-0

A new Acura Intercooler kit was installed in my A-Spec today. Time will tell if this solved the limp in the rain issue. Next rain I will need to put the pedal to the metal to see if it’s really fixed. Fingers crossed.

I still like the spark plug idea...
get a colder plug to help solve the limp mode in rain issue

my bad; i meant to say use a smaller gapped spark plug.
another alternative would be to use a higher voltage plug

I e had the misfire/limp mode with the prl intercooler-so that says the intercooler is not the issue
96373 ngk spark plugs fix it-
20000 miles with almost 30 psi boost and no limp mode

Not doubting you, but if so, why wouldn't Acura start using these plugs? Seems a much cheaper fix to a dangerous situation.

Just saying in my case the spark plugs were the issue-
I don’t doubt the intercooler has its issues but I personally don’t think it’s the root cause-
i also wonder if the reflash that goes along with the intercooler replacement lowers the boost level a bit?

Hey Rob, can you verify this model # for the plugs? I've been searching and can't find them by that number anywhere. If you have the box that shows the model with a leading letter(s) for the model that would be awesome. Planning to install the MHI turbo and HPS pipe tomorrow and if I can get a set of these may go ahead with those also.

I've seen a bit of water come from some of these intercoolers we've replaced, I'd have to think that moisture is being drawn down the line and creating an issue where the PCM is registering more misfire activity and the software update is making the PCM less responsive to those occurrences.

So really all we've done is install an intercooler with smaller diameter hose connections and made the cold pipe diameter slightly smaller, i'f moisture is really the issue id be more concerned with the plastic end caps of the intercooler allowing water to pass inside which would still be the case on the replacement part.

I drive my 2019 ASPEC with gusto 24/7. The 2 times that limp mode has occurred is in a moderate to heavy rain 60-70mph and I hammer it. 100% all the other times with no rain, zero, nada, no problems. Have not had a chance to hammer in the rain since I had the Intercooler kit installed but am sure I will have an opportunity soon.

I've got the GRP intercooler (no crash beam modification like the PRL) in my 2020 and have never experienced the limp mode issue either before or after.
