Finally installed the GRP intercooler

Finally installed the GRP intercooler today with the help of Bryant. It was basically a direct replacement, requiring just the front bumper cover and beam to be removed. Took a little over and hour to do. The new intercooler is about twice as big as the factory one! You can use the fog light installation instructions to remove the bumper cover itself. See some pics of the install below.

Not expecting much with the stock tune on a cold day. 😄

At least there was no CEL!

The top half is blocked by the beam. The beam looks like its made from aluminum?

True, and I believe its aluminum. But, even without direct air flow it is more cooling than the factory setup. The bars and fins are much larger than the stock unit.

I'd be tempted to swiss cheese the bar, just over the intercooler, but I'd have to think about the frontal collision ramifications first...

Yeah, don't think I want to go that far... I like having safety features kept in place.

Besides, I think the airflow from the radiator fan will help the upper part of the intercooler behind the beam.

Rob5150, did you get a chance to compare versus the stock intercooler?

yes I did and although the ambient temps make a big difference as does boost, the prl definitely holds the temps down a lot longer under boost
