Oil change Notification after just 2200 miles
Hi Fellow RDX Owners,
I hope you can help me understand this.
I got the 1st oil change (A service ) on my 2019 RDX at 5100 miles in March 2020.
Since then pandemic hit, and we are mostly working from home. As of today my car mileage is only at 7300 miles and its showing 10% oil life left recommending B Service.
I am not aggressive driver and do not go hard on car. So, it does not seems okay that oil change is asked after just 2200 miles.
I took it to dealership and they say, its almost 12 months after last service so its asking for oil change.
Is it normal? I thought oil change recommendations are mostly based on mileage( at least my other cars Civic and CRV goes by mileage)
Appreciate your inputs.
Thanks // Ashish

For better of worse, thats kind of how it works.
My 2019--
1st oil at 2383 miles after 11 months of ownership
2nd oil at 4300 miles at 22 months of ownership
the 3rd is getting close at 6600 miles, at 30 months of ownership... I think there is a code 7 showing also Brake fluid?
so time must weigh heavily vs miles as 6600 miles in 2 1/2 years is not much for full synthetic.

The MID will require oil change when you approach 12 month since the last oil change regardless of miles. Its a good thing, you dont want it in your car after 12 month

The RDX and most modern cars have an algorithm that determines when the oil change is due. I'm not sure if anyone but the engineers know what factors are taken into consideration, but almost certainly mileage, time, engine operating temperatures, RPM, etc. are all factors.
For example if the engine is operated in extremely hot or cold conditions, it will require an earlier oil change.
Taking short trips without getting the engine up to normal operating temperature is very hard on the oil. The oil will become saturated with water vapor, and gasoline (Oil Dilution) ). You said "Since then pandemic hit, and we are mostly working from home". .In fact because you are only taking short drives, the oil algorithm may have determined that the oil needs changing at a lower mileage than it did when you were driving to work each day and getting the engine fully warmed up.
