Hi Folks,

My current oil level is at 50%. (Have around 3000 miles on the car, got the car around 2 months ago ) . Planning to go on a road trip around 2800 miles next week . My concern is should i ask my dealer for a maintenance and oil change before i start this trip?

I have a maintenance package from acura , but they said they would charge me 100 USD if i got it done before the Maintenance minder came on?

i would imagine you will be fine until you come back, it will be right about to the end but you should make it with only 2800 miles to drive

I agree.. don't worry about oil change early especially the first one. Its special break-in oil and should be changed only when RDX tells you to.,

You will be fine to wait. We do a lot of long trips, and did a 1200 mile trip before our first oil change, which wasn’t until 8400 miles. I’m now at almost 15k miles with 30% oil life left, and another 1200 mile trip in a few weeks, so mathematically I should make it back before needing the next service, just will have to contend with the maintenance reminders near the end of our trip.

Long highway trips with steady cruising are much easier on the oil than short stop-and-go trips around town, and the MM accounts for that.

If you're at 50% you will be fine waiting to change the oil until after the trip.

Could you elaborate on this oil? This is news for me, would like to know more.

It is not break-in oil, per se. However there is significant moly used in assembly, which circulates in the oil, and Honda/Acura wants you to leave that in for the entire MM period.

Agree.. may not be exact break-in oil but bottom line, avoid early oil change for the first time.
