This New Map Update probably should have been posted in this sub forum.
Oh well, Thanks for reminding me!

“Are you guys using the "HERE map downloader" that Acura wants you to install?”
Yes, I installed the downloader and then downloaded the map files. The process worked without a hitch.

Also downloaded the update for my 2019 but, the file is VIN specific and the 2021 won't accept it.
I used to have trouble with the 2019 VIN.
here sucks.

I had this occur with my first map update. This may be a hassle, but the solution is to contact HERE. They actually had to put my VIN into their database (or whatever they did). Unless you contact them, it will never start functioning. I had no problems with subsequent updates.

To be fair, you have to understand that it was Thanksgiving from Thursday until today. I'd give them a few more days and then call back, maybe on Wednesday. They took care of it relatively promptly for me, but I was calling on a random day in like June or something.

They refuse to activate my VIN saying that the update is for 2019 and 2020 only.
They will not authorize a 2021 VIN.
I argued to no avail. They said to go to my dealer.
Yeah, right.. That'll fix it.

Hmmm...I selected 2020 for the year and put in my VIN and it took it fine. Download was slow, as was the load into the nav unit, but it worked.

Did the update, and saw no visible updates for me. Not bad for a 1.5 year update. Personally, I think the UI graphics/colors are horrible and the traffic updates are right up there with the graphics. I've said it before, and will again…fire the programmers and just outsource the entire thing, not just the map data, to HERE or Garmin or another GPS company that understands UI.

Updated my car this morning and did not have any issues. The new extension road on 56 in Wesley Chapel now shows up, where before I was driving on open space.

I noticed some 3D buildings have been updated to better match the real ones. Also, not sure if this was there before, but when I see stars in the dark universe background zooming out all out.

After the fourth request, here finally let me download for my VIN.
it took 2:14 to download and is now installing.
Now I can go argue with xfinity about my alleged “Gigabit” download speed.

Good luck with the argument. Xfinity is putting a cap on bandwidth use for my state and a few others in New England area. With Netflix streaming, YouTube, remote learning and work from home we easily cap 1.2 TB a month. For unlimited bandwidth we have to cough up another $30 per month. I did send them a feedback but I am sure Comcrap will give a shit.

This download speed in not your carriers fault, it's Acura's. Mine took at least 2 hours as well and I'm Frontier Fios. some sites restrict their download speeds and/or were overloaded. It's not xfinity fault.

The update in the car was slow as molasses as well.
I'm good until the next 'quarterly' update which I'm guessing will be in 16 months or so.

It took me about an hour to download it from Acura and about 45 mins for it to install in the car. As Oil Stain said above, the download bottleneck is likely on Acura's end (or where ever the data is actually coming from)...that's about dial-up speed.
As for the actual update into the nav, I realize there's a lot of data to load into the nav system but 45 min does seem kinda slow...I wonder what the nav system has for processor, memory, etc? Then again, it's also continuously processing data from the GPS sats and other data from sensors in the car while it's updating so it's probably pretty busy and updates are probably at the bottom of the priority list. Just speculating...

Then there is decompression, error checking and all that before the new update is activated and like you said, more stuff happening in the background.

I would speculate the use of USB 2.0 to be the bottleneck here. The transfer itself for 14.7GB might take 8-15mts, going by realistic transfer speeds, probably more with this infotainment system.

My home computer has ~300 download speed, I use a USB 3.0 thumb drive in a 3.0 socket.
took about as long going down to the drive,~45 minutes as it took going up to the car.
Maybe it is error checking along the way?

Download took maybe 15 minutes for me, formatting the SD card to Fat32 took longer, the whole process is stupid, but at least we can do it ourselves. I working from home, not wasting another hour itrying nstalling this map update, dont' know when I will get to it. Also, did the Waze "hack", that worked flawlessly, never really used Waze, i'll try it some more, but Google Maps looks better to me.

For this, it doesn't matter if you have a 1G internet, the download speed seems to be throttled from the Acura/Here website/servers.
I was talking about the time it takes for the infotainment system to perform the update. This is where the slow USB speed comes into play. Even if you use a USB 3.0 stick, it will fallback to 2.0 speeds. Why they didn't use a USB 3.0 port on the RDX, is a good question.

Start the car, wait until it boots, then stick the stick in the console. It should briefly say it is uploading, but that message goes away. If your stick flashes when it reads or writes, it will do that.

One way I found to “check if it’s still updating” is hit the home button to go to the Home Screen. Then hit the navigation icon, doing this will flash up the “map updating” message.

Finally, got some time during the holidays to update the map. The update interface seriously needs to be more informative. Something like: "Map is being updated. Don't remove the USB key" would have been nice, vs flashing a cryptic vague message. Though it was a relief after an hour I checked the car and it showed this.

I get the "Updating navigation map..." message when I connect the USB drive, but about a minute later I get the message "Map update stopped. Re-connect the USB drive with the update files to start the process again." I reconnect and get the same thing.
Anyone else have this problem?

Can you tell me if is the map update version 2020.10.09 is free? Is the method of updating similar to the OTA Navi updates or is it necessary to find the HERE website & download it from there to a USB drive & then upload it to the Infotainment Navi?

I'm not the most computer literate so maybe you can help. The largest flash I own is a 16 GB 2.0. Before realizing it will not work got on the site & entered my VIN & the current map version I have in my 2019 RDX & it was accepted which is great. I'm assuming I'll need to buy a new 32 GB 2.0 flash drive to do the download (s). Question is do I ask for one that is 32FAT or FAT32 or is there something I will need to do with the new 32 GB Flash Drive?

When you get it, it will already be setup for FAT or FAT32 when you get a 64GB. You don't need to do anything. To check what the USB is formatted at, you can right click on the drive and select properties. There it will tell you how the drive is formatted.
If you do want to format the drive, chose quick format, if not it will take several minutes to format like 20 min or more.
