ELS Studio Input Source Specs

After seeing a screenshot from another post about the input source specs the other day i unsuccessfully spent a couple of hours trying to find it again so wanted to ask if someone could share it again.

I am trying to determine if i can get a higher bitrate of audio through the analog aux port than the 24b / 48k that is associated with the digital ports.

Thank you,
Danny

Dunno what you saw, but AFAIK all input sources are converted to digital signals ( via an ADC ) that are fed to a DSP ( digital signal processor ), heavily "massaged" in the digital space, then fed to digital output amplifiers/DACs.

Dunno what the effective bitrate of the input ADC may be, but I assume you know that bitrate has no meaning for an analog signal. You will be adding DAC and ADC conversions to your audio signal ( assuming the source is digital to begin with ), exposing the signal to electrical noise and distortion, and gaining nothing since there is no way to bypass the DSP and everything it's going to do to the signal. There is no "pure analog" path available. And I doubt the analog input is especially high quality, since it's only expected to receive mediocre quality signals. Also, the DSP applies different equalization and such to different input sources.

Anyway, IMO bitrate isn't usually the problem with audio quality in automobiles, it's compression and deliberate bandwidth cropping to protect the amps and factory speakers. Not to mention the horrendous noise floor ( unless the vehicle is parked inside an anechoic chamber ), ludicrously complex acoustics, and resonant plastic and metal drum you're sitting in. And the questionable quality of the electronics.

As for the compression and digital signal quality issue, the highest quality input will almost certainly be via USB. Not Bluetooth, and certainly not XM radio.

Just $0.02 from a long time audiophile. To the limited extent it's possible to be an audiophile and tightwad at the same time.

Thanks Wander,

All very good points - After i made the post i remembered about the digital amp inputs so was thinking it was a likely a mute point.
