Windshield needs to be replaced. OEM on backorder nationwide?!?

Hello all.. I had a chip on my windshield which is now turning into a pretty lengthy crack starting from the passenger side. I had called my insurance company (GEICO) to get it replaced and its covered by my comprehensive with a deductible that I have to pay. Anyways, they booked an appointment with Safelite and I insisted on getting the OEM windshield and parts for this replacement and Geico approved as well. However, it seems like there is a nationwide backorder on this and no one knows the ETA on this. Do you guys have any suggestions on what I need to do? There is only a Honda dealership near by place, which also has a collision center. Should i take it there and see if they have better luck in procuring it? Anyone get it replaced very recently in the US?

Can't hurt to give them a call or drop by.

Welcome to the new supply chain. Just got a call from the service department - my MOST bus harness is on backorder.

Go into almost any store and you still see whole sections of shelves empty of products not being delivered for any number of reasons.

We're becoming the Soviet Union.

you could call various dealers to see if they have one in their inventory. In nj theres like 40+ dealers and some stock parts not sure whats by you.

i have been pretty lucky on parts but buddy whos a master tech at honda has TONS of cars waiting for parts and some they have been installing aftermarket brake pads etc for customers

good luck

Yikes.. I'll give them a call and find out.. I am trying to find the right part number for the RDX Advance Windshield as well and owners manual wasn't that helpful and so trying my luck to find the part number in online acura parts stores like Curry Acura and Acura OEM Parts website.. Hoping if someone has it in stock then the safelite store can try getting it from them and doing the install.. Lets see.. Don't want the crack to go all the way to the drivers side and a cop pulling me over for unsafe driving conditions.

We had to have the windshield replaced on our 2020 Advance shortly after we purchased it. The part number on the invoice is 73111-TJB-A12

The engine air filter is on nationwide backorder since late August. Two online Acura parts stores are quoting shipment of Oct 6.

They replaced my engine air filter and cabin air filter yesterday. Or, so they said. I didn't know it was part of the service and I was only told about it after the fact when the service gal called to tell me the car was ready. I told her I just changed the cabin filter in June, as I do every year (after pollen season).

She didn't charge me for either.

I'm now having to deal with this on my 09 MDX. Just picked up a stone chip starburst on a road trip. The "repair" was pretty disappointing from the local shop that could get me in while away from home. It literally looks the same. Supposedly it was "sealed" and it shouldn't spread. However it is on the upper left of the driver's side portion of the windshield. I contacted the local glass guy my dealer uses has zero ETA on OE glass and OEM glass is backordered with an estimate maybe by October. He can't find a windshield for my car. It's a little crazy to think that the supply chain hasn't at least caught part of the way up by now. According to Safelite's site, there is a global shortage on glass. I have a friend who is still waiting for his new windshield...it's been 4 weeks and counting. This is our current reality as annoying as it is.

I currently have a pretty large crack on my '19 and I think I am going to do Safelite. A distant family member has the same car and had his done at Safelite and I spent a good amount of time with a flashlight inspecting their work (seals, fit, etc) & drove it and the sensors and cameras all seem to work fine... Hope maybe some comfort for anyone looking... Off topic, but mentioned above.. I had the recall done with the BUS Cable thing replacement and to be honest the entire system is still a hot mess. I still get the day/ngiht switching but now it just happens a little quicker and doesnt show the "Drive mode change unavailable" message. Dealer had no answers of course.

There's a 4 month back order for OEM windshield. Insurance only pays for aftermarket so I had to pay $80 extra for the OEM.

I just pray this whole ordeal doesn't happen again. I'm gonna avoid following large trucks and pickup trucks.

Here in AZ, it doesn't take a truck to flip a pebble off the road and target your windshield! Any old or (new) economy car or even a subcompact crossover can do this talented work, without any precision instruments! hahaha

It is truly sad that windshields are backordered 4 months! I guess any that are getting here are going into new car production. With that said, I wonder where the windshields are being manufactured, and why the backorder?

You will be surprised by how much you can reduce probability of broken windshield and paint chips if you always keep distance, especially from trucks or other cars with big tires without mud flaps.
I really hate that we dont have requirement to use mudflats on cars with bigger tires, its a requirement in many countries

Thank you for this. I did get a call from Safelite the following day saying they now have it in stock. Surprised by it, I asked them again "how come? You said there is a nationwide backorder. Are you sure you have the OEM WINDSHIELD?" And they confirmed yes and their vendor will ship it for installation. Took it the shop today and got it installed. The only difference I see between the original one and the one installed is that the one installed today says "Vitro" on it, and the original one has "PGW" on it, but both have Acura logo on it. They also confirmed this morning that this is the OEM WINDSHIELD. So I'm hoping they are correct. I'm not noticing any difference acoustically. Hopefully will know more when I take it on the highway at 70mph+ speeds tomorrow. What are your thoughts from this pic?

Vitro purchased the PGW OEM glass business back in 2017. I found this article that explains all the details:

How are the sensors working? And do you notice any scratches and dirt after the installation? Thanks!

I went through Acura for mine, they said it was backordered for weeks. Two days later it showed up.
