Windshield Broke

Windshield broke, no rock chip. I was on an onramp to get on the highway and it just broke, reported to dealer, never got word back yet.

With the incidents of rear windshields and panoramic sunroofs exploding, I don’t doubt that Acura used some subpar quality glass on this entire car.

something def hit it, dealer isnt going to do anything

mine had a small scratch and safelight couldnt fill it with resin. I knew it would crack and a week later… voila cracked

then safelite office swapped out the glass and calibrated it.

rock chips and cracks are just cost od doing business with cars, nothing acura will do**

***as for the rear glass that is a manufacturing issue & doesn’t get front impacts/debris

Ask I-CAR

Acura

Request

What does Acura say about using adhesive to replace welded parts?

Response

Per the Collision Industry Position Statements “Acura Unibody Repair””:

”Adhesives and Welding

Using adhesives in place of welding for component replacement is not an authorized American Honda repair method. It is important to repair at factory seams using the same procedures as the factory assembly process except where specified otherwise in the Honda or Acura body repair manual.”

Maybe this is why this car's sunroof pops so much. And the sunroof and rear window blow out, and the windshield cracks with no rock chips. Maybe it is flexing excessively. There used to be information on this unibody technology on their website, but I can't find it now. Just saying.

Yep. I had a VERY similar crack. Probably hit by a piece of ceramic. Super quite little *tap* when it got hit and the crack appeared.

Everyone in these forums gets so outraged. Anecdotes are not data.

How do you onow nothing hit it? Usually you take a ball pooint pen and run the length of the imperfections, and you will hit a snag you may not have seen.

Adhesives are used on dissimilar materials on joints with clearly defined load paths. Different joints require different methods due to load pathways, etc. You will note the specific "...in place of welding..." wording. This implies using adhesives in ways they are NOT intended for. The same could be said for welding...do not use it in place of adhesives...for example, one does not "weld a new windshield in..." of course! Adhesives have been used extensively in cars since 2005 and likely before. The new f150 uses over 300ft of structural adhesives, and this is a truck meant to tow, haul, etc.

Yes. And some like to repeatedly post negative comments and assume their bad experience will happen to everyone.
