Towing ATV with RDX

I have a 2019 RDX Tech with the factory hitch installed. Says towing capacity is 1,500 lbs. I'm looking at pulling a small trailer with a single ATV, with a combined weight of around 1,300 lbs. I'm just curious if anyone else has used the RDX to pull anything similar in weight and how did it do with regard to the transmission, traversing inclines/hills, maintaining engine power to keep up to highway speeds, etc. Is there an optimal setting to be in, like Comfort?

I have been trailering my boat, which is 1490lbs, for two summers now. I have the OEM hitch. I tow in comfort mode and don’t even feel it behind the vehicle 95% of the time. No issues at all...it handles the hills as well or better than any other vehicle I’ve had with a V6..

Towing my CanAm 1000r for two years now with a Triton aluminum trailer. It has the drop gate ramp at the rear. I agree with Leaf 68, when towing, you don't even know it's there.

Ok, thanks for this. That is almost the exact setup that I'm thinking - CanAm 1000r XTP on a Triton Aluminum, but I might opt for the ATV88 trailer so I could possibly side load 2 ATV's (would use our Honda Pilot to pull that load).

What wiring kit do you have to power the trailer lights, etc.? Even though I had the hitch installed, they didn't install the wiring kit. Thus far, I've only been using it for a bike rack for mountain bikes.

Thanks - Chappy

You are welcome. The wet weight of the 1000r and my hunting gear played into getting the Triton. Check your weight. IIRC the Pilot can handle another 500 lbs? Forgot to get the spare wheel for mine but it's good idea.

I have the OEM hitch and wiring and it does the job. Good luck

Yeah, the 2014 Pilot that we have has the V6 and came that year with the tow package as a standard, with the trans cooler, etc. Should be fine with 2-3,000 behind it. I used to pull a Triton with a 4 seater RZR with that in the mountains without issue. The second ATV for my wife will be much lighter than a 1000r Outlander - something like a Honda Rancher.
