Auto stop shutoff

So someone invented an auto shut off that you piggy back into the harness for My Audi A4. https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a4-...3006506/page2/

Has anyone heard of anything like this for Acura? I would think most acuras would have the same type connectors. There should be a market out there for it.

Sorry. I remember that thread but didn't see the idle stop on the last few posts. That thread go so far off topic that I must have quit reading it.

Thanks smccor1

I would have gotten the IdleStopper if it eliminated the light on the dash showing that Auto Stop/Start was off. Alas, it does not. For me, it's not really a hassle pressing the button ... it would be nicer if they did it like BMW where the button is integrated in the ring around the Push Start, but at least Acura gives you the option of turning it off with a button.

Having easy access to the disable button weighed heavily in my decision to go with the RDX.
It's quick, and easy.

Have you installed it yet? What are your impressions on the install and reliability?

Mine just arrived today. If the weather is nice this weekend I will install it and might document the process with installation pictures. The YT video seems straight forward to me.

I just figured out why those of you (us?) are buying and installing this device. It's the fact that you think that you have beat the system, and have figured a way to outsmart the manufacturers/EPA. (Actually, YOU haven't, the manufacturer of the device has, and is profiting from it) Certainly it can't be because you aren't smart enough to learn to push a button as part of your start up procedure.

That might be true for some of us, but for my wife and I, we felt it was a safety issue especially when turning into on coming traffic.

Took me almost an hour to install, secure and tie down everything. I was very careful not to break any clips. Here is the wiring installation. I zip tie, cover everything up with electrical tape, double side tape to hold down the unit and secure it down.

Now I don’t have to remind myself to press the AIS button every time I turn on the engine.

Pull back the wiring insulation enough room for the white power cable to attach idle stop clip

you dont have to shut it off with the switch to pull into traffic, if the car is off due to idle-off, just give the steering wheel a little tug and it starts the car up for that one idle-stop.

You misunderstood my comment. What happened was I pulled up and stopped looked for traffic and then as I went to accelerate the automatic shut off kicked in and turned the car off.

I know how it works, but the fact that the car turned it off as I was attempting to pull out after stopping is very dangerous

Agreed. This is an issue with all the new cars with it.

Not trying to be offensive, but it's probably more reflective of how you drive being dangerous than how the auto-stop is functioning. What I mean is that in the scenario you described -- where you stop to check traffic before proceeding -- if you're genuinely hitting the gas pedal before the auto stop has even shut the car engine off, then you're pulling out way too fast. Like I can't really think of a scenario where I came to a complete stop and then hit the gas before the auto stop could kick in. (Keep in mind as I say this that there are certain scenarios where the auto stop will NOT activate, and I am not referring to these. For example, if you brake HARD, the auto stop will not come on. I've done this. Or if you brake to a stop but do not completely depress the brake, it will not kick in. He seems to be writing that he came to a stop that would activate the auto stop appropriately, but then he hit the gas so quickly that he was attempting to accelerate WHILE the car was activating the auto stop.)

I installed my IdleStopper this past weekend. It took me about an hour and half start to finish. That included watching the YouTube video a bunch of times. I took my time, and everything went according to the instructions. The hardest part was threading the power wires from behind the radio to the cigarette lighter.

It was a little weird with the AI yellow light on all the time at first, but now I don't even notice it. It is super nice to not have the engine stop every time the car stops, even when I back into my drive way.

Definitely worth the money.

To me, the autostop indicator light always on would be more annoying than having the car stop at traffic lights. If someone comes up with a system that turns autostop AND the indicator light off, I'm in.

I installed Idlestopper not too long ago. I love it. After engine is on a few seconds later the AIS is on. Not sure why folks said it bother them when the light is out for the way. I guess everyone is different.

I must say, keeping one’s nails well trimmed seems to be important.

Well done.

Is that your hand, or did you hire a hand model?

You can thank my Filipino wife (now a Naturalized Citizen) for the trimmed nails! Yea that’s my hand with the sleeping Border Collie below it.

I have to say, I installed the idlestopper a few months ago, and love it! Best $80.00 I ever spent. I know it's easy enough to press a button, but I just plain forgot sometimes, and this gives me a great sense of satisfaction. Say what you will. :-)

Not trying to mock you, just going for some quick humor. I’ve made it a habit of turning it off as soon as I start the car.

idle-stop web enabled timer

I used this web enabled timer to create a pulse on the idle-stop line. It has a sink line already setup, really small, and easy and great to use, and, great documentation. Save yourself 35 bucks.
Amazon Amazon

check it out.

I don't even notice the auto-stop anymore. From day one of ownership I start the car, select Sport+ and go. No problem.

For a different reason, it's completely a non-issue for me now. Some combination of factors has it shutting down very rarely anyway, and if I do forget to hit the button and it shuts down, one quick motion and it stops. It's just background noise -- at most.

Don't mean to bring an old thread back to life, but I've recently acquired a TLX and would like to perform the idle stop bypass. Could you provide more context in how you're using this timer device? Also, you mentioned that you were building a unit, any update you can share regarding that?

Thanks
