Tell Me the Truth! Would you recommend the 2019 RDX?
Hi All, I'm new to the Forum. We are giving the 2019 RDX (Technology) serious consideration; but all the posts about the infotainment system has given us pause. So, to you current 2019 RDX Owners, do you recommend the RDX? What do you love and hate about the car? Did the most recent OTA address your current issues? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I'm not a cross over guy, I like sports cars and pick up trucks, but other than the brakes, I enjoy my sisters RDX whenever I get a chance to drive it (Though not her music tastes since she takes DJing seriously)

I have an advance awd. Overall I love driving the car. It handles extremely well and has peppy acceleration. The seats are comfortable with lots of adjustments. I love the interiors look and feel.
Minor concerns/annoyances:
squeaky/creaky suspension over bumps
somewhat mushy brake pedal
slightly higher road/wind noise than expected
blurry 360/backup cam
the wiper and headlight switch position doesn't show up in dash when selecting
no dedicated phone buttons for answer/hang up
unintuitive infotainment system
mediocre gas mileage
no auto start on remote
The only major annoyance I have with it is the USB music playback glitch. Every time I listen for an extended period of time I get the high pitched noise and the error about not being able to play the current file. I haven't tested since the latest update but have read that the problem still exists. All of my music is in the .flac file format so I don't know if it's an issue when playing MP3 files.

I would still recommend the ‘19 RDX. I still have issues with the infotainment system. Twice today I received USB error after starting the engine. The audio USB was unstable. Reboot the system resolve the issue. Then it came backup again after another startup. Hopefully Acura will address this issue with another update.

I have the tech awd and I like the car "for the price". I have below issues but luckily no issues with infotainment system.
1) Squeaky brakes (acura is aware and working on a fix. No eta)
2) Creaking noise from front suspension in tempratures below 50 (acura is aware and working on a fix. No eta)
3) Squeaky drivers seat back intermittently. It is due to foam pads inside. Dealer feels this is normal. So I am meeting DSM to try and get the seat replaced if it cannot be fixed. But not a major problem, only an annoyance that I can live with for now.
4) Moaning tailgate when car is parked in sun and it is above 70 outside. Since it is cold now, this is not happening anymore.
5) Jerky shifts from 2nd to 3rd which smoothens out after around 30 minutes of driving. Possibly temprature related. But I tried a lot of different rdx's with different dealers and felt it on all of them. So I am not expecting any fix and dealers also say this is normal operation. Maybe personal preference also because some of my friends who have owned honda's feel this is normal and not an issue. I am getting used to it. Not a deal breaker for me. But definetly something to look at in test drives.
I still feel there are more things I like about the car and it's a great value. Fit and finish is not at German level. But a notch above mainstream. It's really a personal preference but I would still recommend.

I love everything about my car except the unstable, bug-riddled pile of steaming crap in the middle of the dashboard. I'd be fired from my software development job if I submitted something that shoddy for our internal testing and auditing, let alone allowed an actual customer even the slightest glimpse of such.

Yes, in particular the Advance. My budget was under $50K.
I selected the RDX over the Q5 and X3. I was looking for a sport-luxury CUV, to match my luxury-sport GLC3004matic. Both Germans where mid-level models (CarPlay/Parking Sensors/Leather), and I selected the RDX because it matched both in ride, sport-luxury feel and added all the extra options for the same/lesser price the Audi/BMW.
But more importantly, my RDX is fun to drive. The Audi/BMW drove great, do not get me wrong.
My infotainment systems in both my MB and Acura ARE BOTH glitchy. Personally, I prefer the Acura over the MB infotainment set up.
Great options for this market. I really do not think you can go wrong with either Acura RDX, Volvo x60, BMW X3, Audi Q5 or MB GLC300.
In this class I would avoid the Infinity Q50, Lexus NX/RX, or Cadillac XT4

I also must have gotten the pick of the litter. My AWD Advance has been almost perfect. It's a thrill to hop behind the wheel every day. Too many pluses to list to be honest. Great car. I'd buy again in a heartbeat.

My A-Spec RDX has no problems to mention. The only worry I have is that someone will come and scratch my baby out of envy I got mine in the Apex blue pearl. The built date on my car is 1/19... I traded in my MDX for it. You will love the car.

I think it's a decent car for the price. Is there a better choice? I don't know because I haven't driven any of the others in this class. I would be disappointed if I had this car 5 or more years ago. I had a higher expectations from my car back then. Now, as long as it gets me from A to B in reasonable comfort, I'm good.
I don't think you should worry too much about reliability. Test drive the car and see if you like the seat comfort and the way it drives.

I have an Advance/FWD and would recommend it. Trouble-free over six months of ownership. Minor quirks are soft brake pedal and Vaseline covered 360 camera. Gas mileage is excellent, it is a quick and nimble driver.

I don't really understand the comments about the poor quality of the back up camera. I don't have any issue with my Advance. Unless I specifically need it I turn off the 360 view and the regular image gets bigger...and perhaps clearer?

I would not recommend this car. I have regretted buying this RDX Aspec awd since the week I bought it. It's horrible. I've had 4 different problems in three months. Now the suspension is squeaking. I'm most likely going to trade this thing off soon. Take the hit and never look back at Honda again. It's a 50k bomb. I should have bought the Lexus I test drove.

That's your opinion and I have mine. I think the RDX is poorly constructed and would not recommend it. Don't try to discredit what I think buddy. The fact that you think you should have to put up with minor problems in a brand new car is silly. It shows you don't know what your talking about.

@Damion Goodrich looks like you definitely got a bad RDX tho with all the problems you have been having, too bad really, i do agree that a new car shouldn’t have issues, I don’t blame you for wanting to trade already, 1st gens are always higher risk sadly but still not an excuse

Regarding the cameras, they are definitely Honda quality, same resolution as CRV and CX-5.
It's one thing you don't care about the resolution but to dismiss it's poor quality means you haven't really seen others in the same segment. But as everything else, you learn to live with it, its totally fine and serves it's function. It's like your old TV set, it's fine unless you bring it to Costco and have it side by side with a brand new OLED TV.
Or maybe you simply don't see hi-def...

I went for a test drive the other day and the Acura sales person said that they have noticed that the picture quality of the Advance RDX wasn't quite as good as on the other levels (Tech, Base, etc) although they didn't know why. I'm not saying that the camera in the Advance RDX is not usable. I'm just saying that it clearly could be better and sharper. And if there were some way -- ANY way -- to make it better, I'd like to know about it.

Now that being said I can honestly say that I'm not able to read a newspaper laying on the ground behind the RDX or any other vehicle I've ever owned - nor can I think of a scenario where I would want to.

I'm quite sure that most brands have issues with the 1st year anything. I'm also quite confident that if you were to buy the refresh of this model (2022-ish?) it'll be flawless.
Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Ahh, good tip. I'll try that on my next test drive. Thanks! I'm not sure how or why that would affect it, but something is reducing the sharpness (even the text is not quite as sharp as it should be) so I'll check it out.

The resolution of the backup camera in my current (very old) Honda Pilot sucks and I was really looking forward to a crisp/sharp picture in the new car. Especially with the 360 camera, which is part of the reason why I want to pay extra for the Advance.
