I am relatively new to the Acura family. I have a 21' Aspec, and I just received a message on my Acura Link App that I need to update my system. It states if I don't, it will no longer function after 2/22/22. I have yet to update the system since I purchased the vehicle, and I have a few questions regarding it:
- Is it still recommended to do the update with a USB thumb drive vs. OTA? I like the convenience of OTA, but it sounds like it takes a long time for the download to complete. Additionally, if I were to do an OTA update, would I need to leave the vehicle on the entire time it is being downloaded? Would I be able to turn the vehicle on/off (when using it) and having the OTA resume from where it had previously left off? I don't have a long commute to work, so I don't know how I could do it via OTA without letting my car idle for quite some time.
- If I go the USB thumb drive route, where can I download the software at? What size thumb drive do I need (capacity wise)? What are the steps to actually install the software from the thumb drive onto the system?
If you guys/gals could give me your recommendations, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!
Just start it without the USB. It works fine over the air. If you can, sit still with a WiFi connection. You can still drive around and it will update if you cannot sit still.
I updated my 2020 yesterday at the gym (I didn't realize there was an update until I looked at the screen to turn off the display while driving). After sitting in the parking lot for 15-20mins, I said "f- it" and turned the car off and went in. Came out and it had completed updating.
When you hope things will just go easy.
I have tried doing this update 4 times now. It quickly starts in '4 of 6'...but by the time it gets to 6 of 6 I end up with 'Update Failed Please try again later. If it continues to fail have your vehicle checked by your dealer. Code 57D
I don't think I recall seeing this problem for others...maybe I missed it. I just don't want to take it to the dealer, who will in all likelihood have no idea how to resolve this and throw it back in my lap. Of course this is the update that will cause the AcuraLink and other assorted things to stop working unless I pay for some hardware update after February 22.
God...Acura....
Well, I hope you don't. I wasn't expecting an issue and I wasn't even sure if the 1.6.2 update included all the Feb 22 Acura Link stuff. It apparently didn't as the 1.6.2. went fine, but then a few days later I noticed a little orange circle and '1' (I think that's what it was) in the top of the right side of the infotainment screen. That led to the update of the Feb 22 issue that failed 4 times in a row. I'll try again tomorrow. Disappointing that it doesn't just work, and definitely do not want to drive all the way to the dealer although I may have no choice.
My update has been stuck on Step 6 of 6 since the day it came out. Monday morning I have an appointment at the dealer so they can 'fix' it. They claim it's not a unique problem to me. However, no one here in this forum has had the problem, so who the F knows? I will report back Monday afternoon if they fix it, and I'll ask what they did to fix it in case they actually tell me.
I can't explain it, but 5th times the charm I guess. I just kicked the update off again, left the car and went back about 45 minutes later and now it says it's done....so ditto...who the F knows. Why did efforts 1 through 4 fail? I still don't exactly understand what this update did, besides some kind of black magic with the cars wi-fi capability...but it was the ominous Feb 22 warning and outcome from Acura that got me motivated to get it done. Good luck.
