Sudden Braking...

We have a 2023 RDX Adv, and just yesterday as I was driving through our neighborhood, the brakes activated and the car nearly stood on its nose! No forward traffic, no obstructions, and the car was washed just a few days ago. From what I can see, the sensor looks perfectly clean. My only observation would be that I drove from the shadows of a few houses into a sunny clearing. My wife has also reported the same incident twice if a different area, but I've never been able to replicate until now.

My RLX has CMBS and I've never had this kind of false alert. I'll be contacting the dealer, but has anyone else experienced this rather jarring moment without good cause?

get a dash cam so you can record it if it happens again and submit to the service dept.

I have had the same thing but ever since getting into the habit of disabling the CMBS it hasn't repeated. Unfortunately this has to be disabled (at least on my 2022) ever time yo use the vehicle as it resets to ON.

If you need to review how to disable CMBS, see the content at Disabling CMBS

I encountered this the other day on my 24' Aspec Advance. I was backing out of the garage slowly and the brakes locked up. Scared the crap out of me! There wasn't anything around me, so I have no idea what it was detecting. Either way, it really sucks when that happens! I never encountered that with my 21' RDX Aspec or my 23 TLX Type S.

Never seen this on our 2021 Advance either. It would be scary, tho.

Were your parking sensors going off while you were backing out?

Wife says that's happened to her just running down the road, 60 mph. Hard braking out of no-where. We figured it had to be a lousy shadow.
Imagine you're going down the road, minding your own business, and the car you weren't following too closely, is now right in front of you and your brakes slam on and the car behind you doesn't have that feature. Dangerous situation.

Yes, they were. Still scared the crap out of me. It did it again today backing out of the garage. From now on, I am backing into the garage to avoid this happening again.

Sounds like it was the low speed automatic braking. They added that for MY22 or 23.

On your problem while backing up, the thread at Reverse, slams on brakes may be of interest, And maybe you want to consider the fix in response #3 at that thread.
