Air + Fuel + Spark = Bang = Carbon. Clean it off.

How bad is it? Can you post a pic?

Only way to avoid it completely is to have fake exhausts like the GLC 300.

I have a bunch on mine that won’t come off with a towel, let’s turn this into, what do you recommend for cleaning up the tail pipes?

Some steel wool, soapy water (or wheel cleaner if it's really caked on there) topped off with your favorite metal polish.

How to avoid soot (carbon) on your tail pipe: 1) Don't start the engine and burn that carbon based Hydro-Carbon fuel. 2) Get an electric car! (Of course the electric company's generating plant will leave LOTS of carbon somewhere else...but hey, it won't be on YOUR tail pipe!)

Smile......your day will go much nicer....

You forgot about the fake tail pipe option like the GLC 300 has.

It means you gotta regularly hand wash your car more and give the tail pipes more TLC.
