RDX Rotor issues

Hi all,

I am finally having my rotors and brake pads replaced by Acura at 13k for brake squeak issue. However, I've been told that the rotors are crappy, and FNC (or something similar to that), and that is why they the pads squeak. Is there any truth to that?

Also, with the TLX, I've seen that their has been some issues with warped rotors. Does this carry over to the RDX as well?

Thanks all!

There is a service bulletin on this problem. Had this done on my 2020 about few months after I got it. There was only 400 miles on the car at the time.
The problem as it was explained to me is the the brake pad compound was having problems in cold weather states, Over 40 deg no problem, but as it gets colder you get squeaking until they warm up. The fix was to replace the brake pads with a different grade of pad and in some cases the rotor had to be replace too. In my case only the pads had to be replaced. I have not had the problem since it was done.

The rdx rotors and pads are total junk , as noted above.. there is a tab and dealers will replace… with new part numbers that usually do the same thing.

oddly theres aftermarket but its cut and paste

powerstop offers slotted front rotors n pads but no rears

brembo offers pads but no rotors

r1 is hit and miss

gyrodisc offers nothing unless u have a 10 unit buy in

theres a few bbk’s also but kot worth it on rdx

So was this fixed for 2022? I’ve had zero issues so far after 5k miles on my 2022.

I've also got 5k miles on mine. Rotors squeal for the first few stops the morning after washing or after a rain.

ive got 28K on my 2022 Aspec Adv (took delivery in Nov 21 - yes, I drive a lot of highway miles). Mine have pretty much squeaked since delivery HOWEVER, it’s only after for a couple of stops after exiting the car wash like MetalMan55 posted. 99% of the time it’s fine. Wondering if it’s too late to mention it to the dealer - if anything can be done?

‘Ditto on that. Have had zero issues on my 22, as well as none on my previous 19. Lots of switchback roads daily and I am fairly hard on the brakes.

Tirerack has a number of different brake pad options from brands like Hawk and Stoptech. I had Stoptech's on my old Civic Si, has anyone tried any of these on their RDX?

How much did pedal feel and consistency improve? I have a strong dislike of how long the pedal is and how pedal pressure doesn't match braking power. The TLX has the pedal feel that the RDX should have had.

I have the same issues. My car friend state this isn't normal. However, it isn't anything too bad. Cest la vie.

These pics came from somewhere on this forum - I think they’re on 2019-20 RDX

Did you end up switching from the Ceramic OEM pads to a Semi-Metallic?

Anyone had the brakes replaced under the TSB MORE THAN ONCE?? I had my front pads done within the first year of ownership however am coming up to the end of my four year lease (I am buying the vehicle) and they are squealing again in reverse.

Hoping to get a new set of front and/or rears before I buy the car

I bought a used 2019 with all OEM braking components. Terrible squeal whenever the brakes cooled down.

I swapped the front rotors and pads and so far it’s greatly reduced the noise (knock on wood). Can hear a slight squeal from the rears. The rear calipers aren’t designed to have anti-rattle clips, which is a weird design - unsure if that has to do with anything. As of now I can live with the slight squeal that goes away after 2-3 light/moderate stops. If it gets worse I’ll try swapping the rear rotors/pads.

I've had them done twice which improved things but I still experience noisy brakes as seen in this post of mine: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-rdx-...ounds-1002530/

The braking system has sucked all around on this car - overly soft pedal, non linear feel/materials, and squeaky and loud brakes. It's really unfortunate as the TLX has a great system - nice feel, no noise, right modulation and firm - I smiled the moment I pressed on the pedal.

Acura just extended the TSB for this to cover more years. So, if you are still in warranty, you get new brake pads. Mine are almost worn out on my 2022 so I'll get free replacements on my next oil change.

How many mile on your brake pads? I haven't had one issue at 23K miles - brakes and tires have plenty of material left on them.

28k. Heavy stop/go suburban driving with lots of ACC. We typically need replacement pads every 25k on our cars (except the hybrid which is on pace to hit 250k before replacement).
