Pull the trigger right now or wait until 2021?

Hey Acurazine,

Been a good while, I had a 2005 TL for about 5 years, loved it, and since have leased two Lexus IS 350 F Sports back to back. I am turning in my 2016 F Sport next week.

I live near Tampa, FL now, and the FL dealers are insane. So I have what I consider to be a "best for now" offer from Pohanka Acura on a 2019 RDX A-Spec lease. I would have to have the car shipped to FL.

My questions, before I pull the trigger, is should I get it now. How are current owners experiences? I've heard something about a spinning infotainment screen? Just looking for any possible input from current owners before buying this thing. My other option is a 2 year lease on something like a 3 series, then get the RDX in 2021.

Errr nmind....just took a look at the front page. Shifting issues that are serious, Infotainment frozen and people's brand new cars being "rewired" by dealership personnel.....like Bill Paxton in Aliens "You can count me out!", at least until 2021.

By this time in 2021 or more likely earlier, the 2022 MMC will be launched. Probably lots of good tweaks and the current bugs long gone.

Your mileage may vary, but...

My 2019 SH-AWD Advance is my 3rd Acura (2003 TL-S, 2004 RSX-S). Still own the RSX, gave the TL to my son when I bought the RDX. Never had to do anything other than routine maintenance on the TL or RSX. My advice would be buy it. Everything on mine works perfectly. I think a lot of the issues people have are due to failure of the dealer to do the pre-delivery checkout properly.

A BMW 3 or an RDX?

What are your actual needs and wants?

I'd wait till a Mid Model refresh before buying it. New Model years always have bugs and kinks they need to iron out. *

And by then, there will be something else, and then something else, and so on. We looked at a MB GLC, Lexus NX and RX, Hyundai Santa Fe (2019), Subaru Ascent and Ford Edge. In the end it was the RDX. Second would have been the Ascent. The gap between "premium" and "non-premium" is closing, but so are the prices. You are never going to make the perfect, never look back, problem free decision. Car manufacturers, except anything by Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep, have come a long way.

As automobiles have gone from being engine/drivetrain centric to electronics centric I have yet to experience any model new or mid-cycle that had absolutely no electronic bugs. Fortunately in my case the bugs have all been intermittent, few and far between, and have had no impact on driveability.

Ive had my A-Spec since June and Im very happy with it. The infotainment has frozen exactly once and it was while my iPhone was trying to update itself. Tranny shifts perfect and everything works as I expect it. Brakes are a bit noisy when cold/wet, but the sounds goes away after a few minutes.

My transmission issues have pretty much gone away, a couple of infotainment bugs but noting drastic. I feel certain that the those bugs will be fixed in the near future.

IMO, if you think you can wait until 2021, why even think to buy now? Save dat $$!

While this is generally true, I bought a 2015 CR-V that was a mid cycle update, with a new engine and CVT. We had to order the Touring model we wanted, so I had not test driven the actual vehicle we got before delivery (which I will never do again). I hated it from day one. Honda did address the low speed vibration issues, but it took 18 months, and I still had high speed vibration issues after all the "fixes" they did. I was actually a bit leery about buying another Honda product, but test drove most of the competition and decided to take a chance with the new RDX. While I have had a few infotainment glitches, I am happy with the RDX so far.

Acura seems to fix most kinks after the refresh and throw in a couple extra features.

Does anyone know (or care to speculate) when the Refresh might happen? Thanks.

For the RDX it is every three years, so in august 2021 for the 2022 model year.

OP, looks like you're leasing so you'll be covered by warranty for the duration of ownership regardless of what you decide to get. Get the car you like. There's nothing inherently unreliable about the new RDX or there would be posts all over this forum. Maybe some folks experience a glitch here or there. It is likely similar glitches would still be there even 3 years from now.
