The price of Acuracare
I have a 2019 Acura RDX. The cost of Acuracare at the dealer was prohibitive. I priced Acuracare during the first year and was given a price by a dealer in Massachusetts of $1700.
I was wondering if you guys know if the price goes up as you get closer to the end of the 4 year warranty?
Does it make sense to buy it early? It doesn’t kick in until after 4 years, so I prefer not to pay too far up front.
I thought I would ask you guys. If not I’ll contact the dealer for a new quote.
Thanks!

Check with your insurance company. See if they offer anything. I have GEICO and what they call "mechanical breakdown" insurance for less than $30 a year. It has a $250 deductible but they'll cover a new car for at least 10 years.
I put in a claim on my 2003 Pilot when the car was 15 years old. New AC compressor cost me over $1600 and they sent me a check for over $1350. I put 185,000 miles on that Pilot and that was the only repair I ever had. Man, I loved that car.

You bought a Honda/Acura. It doesn't need extended warranty. Free cash grab for the dealership along with all the other upsell in the finance office.

Also there might be fineprints about whether the insurance uses OEM part or not. OP just do a little more research to see if the Geico one makes sense to you.
You are buying insurance more for peace of mind, on a Honda/Acura, the repair cost within the first 10 year should be close to the insurance cost itself unless you are very unlucky.

Also, if you decide to go AcuraCare buy it online. You will find much better price. AcuraCare is a cash cow for dealership...

Check with Curry Acura online, they have one of the best internet prices on extended warranty.
I would not recommend buying non Acura warranty. Too many problems with them, you might as well not get anything

My local dealer matched the Online price from Curry Acura
for Acura care, they originally wanted to sell the product from
Zurich. Purchased 4 months after I took delivery.
7 year ,0 deductible, 100k miles for $1600.
I always took out an extended warranty On
new cars, over time I broke even, but with
all the electronic gear on the advanced,
thought it was a no brained.

So when I was researching purchasing Acura Care for my wife's 2011 MDX it became clear that I could buy a 5/100 Acura Care plan just before the factory warranty expired and have coverage for nine (9) years or 100k miles. It added several hundred to the the cost but still was a better deal to wait a couple years and buy just before the factory expired. We went ahead and bought the plan in 2015 when our MDX was about four years old. The Acura Care warranty just expired in April 2020 after nine (9) years and 93k miles. I would also note that the Acura Care did eventually pay for itself but not until years eight and nine...still hard to believe I had a car under a manufacturer branded warranty for nine years.
We tend to keep my wife's cars for a long time and clearly it wouldn't have been a good deal had we traded it away in year seven. That said, assuming you will keep the RDX a long time I highly recommend Hyannis Honda and extending the warranty just before the factory warranty expires...
Good luck!

I got my AcuraCare via Saccucci Honda. They were great and very responsive. I had a hell of a time finding AcuraCare. My own dealer would only sell Zurich and kept trying to insist it was better than AcuraCare. Nooooope. Only manufacturer warranties for me. Anyway, I pay WAY less than retail.

I realize I'm a little late to this conversation and you may have already purchased Acura Care but I thought through this exact same thing several years ago with our 2011 MDX and thought I'd weigh in. First thing I'll say is that I've purchased multiple Acura Care and Honda Care warranties from Hyannis Honda in MA. I usually don't bite on extended warranties but we've had iffy reliability with our Hondas. In fact, our Honda Care plan for our '02 Odyssey paid for itself 3x over so I believe in buying reasonably priced extended warranties...i.e. I'm not dropping $5k to extend my BMW warranty but $1200 for an Acura is worth considering.

If you're keeping the car for nine years, I'd do it in a heartbeat. You'll probably add a couple hundred dollars by waiting another year, but there there is little doubt in my mind that you'll have less than $1500 in necessary repairs over a five year period. The big ticket items that went bad as our MDX was coming up on nine years old included a leaking rear main seal, steering rack, and oil pump. I'm guessing that's thousands at the dealer and probably more than the cost of Acura Care at a good indy shop.
Anyway, we still have the car, our college-age daughters drive it and we'll teach our youngest to drive on it soon. The MDX is now over 11 years old and has almost 100k miles and is still running great. Side note, it was also my "chemo" and "scan results" car so I'm trauma bonded to it and extremely superstitious...I don't think we'll ever let it go.
Good luck!
