1024 miles, 18.7mpg, all city. 93 octane,Sport mode, SH-AWD.
It’s low because I only drive like 8 miles to work and 8 miles back. The few drives across town I’ve done were getting 21mpg+.
Have our first long distance vacation coming up, so we’ll see how that checks out.

Fuel Economy Est-Combined (MPG)24 (Est)
EPA Fuel Economy Est - City (MPG)22 (Est)
EPA Fuel Economy Est - Hwy (MPG)28 (Est)The estimated MPG for AWD is:
Fuel Economy Est-Combined (MPG)24 (Est)
EPA Fuel Economy Est - City (MPG)22 (Est)

My almost all highway driving with my AWD is closer to 19MPG, but lots of traffic, stopping, accelerating, etc. I find the engine so weak that I have to always be in sport+ mode, which I'm sure affects the MPG drastically as well. My previous V-6 non turbo got a solid 24MPG with the same exact driving conditions and it's highest sport mode.

I'm at 20.8 MPG at 1800 miles. Mostly city driving. Lately I'm getting 25.7 MPG on the highway though. Very happy with that.

My driving conditions since I got the RDX:

60 City / 40 Highway
"spirited driving" with an even mix of comfort and sport modes

1k-3k miles: 21-22 mpg average per fill-up
3k-4k miles: 23 ish mpg average per fill-up
currently 6,800 miles: 24.1-24.5 mpg average per fill-up & 23.5 total mpg from purchase (oil change due)

Not sure if my driving habits got adjusted to the car or the car mpg got better...

Just shy of 4k miles on the car and I've never seen better than 18mpg to a tank (AWD) running 91. Average is about 16. I keep it in comfort mode, 100% city, most drives are within 5 miles.

Is anyone noticing a difference in mpg depending upon whether or not start/stop is disabled? I'm not a fan of it, and would rather not have it, but in reality I don't think it would have much of an affect on my daily commute to work because even in traffic there is not much complete stop and go. It's more of slow rolling. And once I leave my house there are only a few lights, and also a few stop signs, but does anyone ever come to a complete stop at a stop sign anymore?

I find a 5-10% difference because my driving is nearly all suburban. With AIS I get about 20-21, without it is 19 or less.

I do come to a complete stop at stop signs, as do most drivers I see. Perhaps it’s just more congested around here than where you are.

I find the start stop helps. Here are the conditions when it won't work.

The system will automatically turn itself off in certain circumstances, including:
  • If the driver's seatbelt is not fastened
  • If the engine coolant and/or transmission fluid temperature is too high or low
  • If the vehicle comes to a stop again before vehicle speed reaches 3 mph
  • If the transmission is in a position other than "D"
  • If the battery state of charge is low, or the battery temperature is below 14°F
  • If the climate control system is on and the outside temperature is below -4°F

1 addition to this:
- If the climate control is set to HI or LO

Side note, we all realize that we can't control the climate, right? LOL

2019 Aspec AWD
- Sport Mode
- 90% city (vancouver traffic)
- use regular gas
- use auto idle stop

Average of 11.5 L/100km (20.5mpg) over 8500km

Overall I am pretty happy with the performance and mileage I am getting.

I'm hoping my fuel economy is still improving, but I'm only getting about:

16.5 mpg in the city
24 mpg on the highway

I do mostly city so that keeps my average in the 17-18 range. I drive fairly economically, though the city conditions are mostly stop and go, so I can't do much for that.

So far, I'm doing considerably worse than the minivan I had that was rated at 18/24, despite the 21/27 rating on the RDX. I didn't expect it to go up a great deal due to all of the stop and go driving, but I am surprised the economy has gone down. I'm not looking forward to seeing what the winter does to this.

I should mention that I've noticed the RDX does pretty good in open suburban driving - what I'd still consider to be city/non-highway, but where there aren't as many lights and traffic isn't backed up. In that situation, the RDX is getting close to my highway numbers, whereas my old minivan didn't really see much improvement from stop and go. Unfortunately, I am seldom driving in places like that.

On October 30 will be a year with my 2019 RDX AWD Advance. I have been looking all over about more information about the MPG.
Mine RDX was doing 18mpg till the last oil change and system computer update. Now is 3 months since that and is doing 16.5mpg. This is way to far from right.

Garunas, about how many miles driven do your mileage numbers represent. Is it measured on 1 tank of gas or quite a few?

thanks.

Now I have 10k miles on my 19' RDX Tech AWD. Every day I drive to work 15 miles each way. On my way is 11 traffic lights, driving speeds 35-65 mph.
These numbers are for warm period, on winter time numbers are about 20-21 mpg (heavily using remote start). All numbers are for full tank driven and I'm not a race driver.

30.2 pure highway

@ 1000 miles. Regular Citgo. Respectible, but about 10% less than Gen 2.

2019 A-Spec Sh-AWD

I have a bit of an issue and I’m hoping y’all may have some valuable input. I had an issue this week where my radio didn’t power on when I got in my car. I recalled hearing something about it so I just decided to deal with it later and drove to work. 5 miles from work, my dash goes out, motor stays on and I feel like I lose power steering. 2 secs later, everything back up, but the radio. I get to work, call the dealer and take it in. Now, to the gas!

Prior to all this, I’ve been getting in, Sport mode (85% of the time), roughly 18.7 mpg. However, my gas meter read only ~280 miles til empty. I thought this odd, called the salesman and I was assured everything was normal. So for the last 6 months I’ve driven with this notion of normalcy. After I picked it up from service the following day I filled up my car, lo and behold! 450 miles to empty... not the 280 my car has been running on from day one out of the dealer (on a full tank). My daily commute is 50 miles round trip. I was filling up (with few miles to spare) every week. I also was forced to get an oil change at 6,000 miles (95% highway) and was informed this was normal too. Now, is this normal? I asked the service guy, he made it seem like good for me now it’s right and then tried to tel me the last 6 months my engine had to “adjust”. This sounds like a load..

Pretty normal. The reserved fuel when remaining range becomes 0 is about 1.5 gallon. Acura is conservative because they know this engine can be thirsty.

As for oil change, the interval is a bit short for mostly hwy, but I would not worry about it. Maybe there are other factors like weather that affects it.

My two oil changes averaged at 7K miles, but it was not down to the 15% ‘wrench’ warning. It was just because the percentage was low enough and the car was in for service.

My old Honda Pilot used to get about 430/tank, but when I first bought the car it showed 425, then next fill-up dropped to 280-ish and now after service and system reset, back up to 455. Just filled it up this morning to test and same 450ish. I’m more worried that if this is wrong, I might run out of gas mid drive, if it’s not, then my car has been consuming almost double the amount of gas (if I’m to go off the meter).

What do you think would cause the large difference in “tank mileage” to occur “overnight” while at service

I meant in this car. I see it in my wife’s Accord and saw it in my 535i.

A recent trip from Connecticut to Myrtle Beach, SC. With traffic, fuel and bladder stops I averaged 63 MPH. I actually hit 29 MPG before I got off Interstate 95 to Myrtle Beach. Alternated gas between premium and regular. On the highway I could not tell a difference in performance. Around town, my normal driving, I do feel better performance with premium. My normal everyday suburban driving with a heavy foot gets me 22-24 MPG. All in all I'm happy with the mileage for the performance of this drivetrain.

No further improvement in city mpg (16.5), but I have noticed the pure highway miles I am easily seeing 28mpg.

2019 AWD A-Spec in California. 12k miles. Always in Comfort Mode. 87 octane Top Tier gas. 36 psi cold tire pressure in all 4 tires.

20 mpg at best on the highway

15 mpg in the city.

19mpg gas mixed driving.

Gas mileage is pretty bad. 17 gallon gas tank doesn't help either. I have to get gas pretty often.

Advertised City driving is 21. Highway is 26. Mixed is 23.

The only real complaint I have about the vehicle is the gas mileage. Love everything else about it.

I might try out premium 91 octane for a couple of months to see if it's better to use 91 or 87 for me.

'19 Aspec AWD

Sport mode 95% of the time

7300 miles

20.6 average mixed highway/town driving

93 octane

I did two trips in September and October 550 and 620 miles round trips for college football away games mostly turnpike I got 24.5 cruise set at 76 mph.

It's almost the same mpg as my '15 AWD Tech same route for work same weekly routine give or take.

Hello Evey one,

I also am getting crap mileage like the other in NY getting 14 in the city. 28 on the highway.
14 is pure crap. Comfort mode and no lead foot.
I had a 90 legged L before with a 6 cylinder that got better.

Welcome.

This old, long thread probably has many new member posts like yours. New owners are surprised that a 122 cu in 4-cylinder gets such low mileage. It's a small engine moving a solid two tons, often through all four wheels all the time. It's on boost a lot and that kills economy.

I'm not a fan of this phrase, but, it is what it is. A small engine working hard vs. a larger engine not breaking a sweat. We only have the option of the former. I stopped looking at gas mileage.

It's a very good car overall.

Thanks for the reply. I just got mine about 6 months ago. What really pisses me off is that they could put a econ button on the car. In NY there is a lot of 3 or 4 block to stop. 15 city MPG is not even close to the 22 they rated.
How many sport modes to we need. Yes it's fun and fast, but I personally feel that one sport mode is enough and the econ button would be better for most of us.
Really am quite disappointed in them over hyping the MPG.

To be fair -- and I'm sure you know this -- fuel economy numbers are not determined by Honda/Acura.

I am not sure if I knew that or not. I know that. I asked the dealer and they told me that when Acura did them they were done in the best conditions.
Which might be true. I think they did it on a 4 mile down hill slop to be that fa off.
I could accept 18, 19 but 14 that is really bad. Highway I get 28 which is acceptable. Also I have the A Spec so the bigger tires will kill about 1 to 2 MPG.
Even though the stickers or all models show the same rated MPG.
