I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a difference in paint quality when it comes to Premium Paint vs Regular paint.
From Acura's website it mentions the following:
Quote: Premium Paint Technology
Find your shade of power with a premium paint finish in Performance Red Pearl, Liquid Carbon Metallic, Majestic Black Pearl, Platinum White Pearl, Phantom Violet Pearl, and Apex Blue Pearl. These durable pigments are applied in a series of tinted clear coats for brilliant chromatic color that has a deep, rich finish.
4 stage or premium is Base coat, mid or pearl coat, tinted clear, and clear coat. Variation in 4 stage terms might be base, pearl, color, clear with pearl and color might swap positions. It’s also common to add additional coats of clear to add depth.
Some manufactures still use 2 stage base color ( no clear) with some colors.
E-coat, chip guard and other special primers are below the base.
I feel left out of the "Premium Paint" party since I have Lunar Silver — and that's not mentioned among the premium paints. (It sure looks premium to me, though.) Best-looking silver I've seen.
So they say that the major difference is that there Is color or tint in the clear. Same or similar thickness.
4 stage vs 3 stage…….extra stage significant more cost, extra coat ( stage is slightly thicker) often noticed when the body shop repair is higher due to the extra and labor.

Pearl paint material is a much higher cost.
Really what matters from a detailing perspective, is how thick the clear coat is. As that is the layer you will be doing any sort of paint correction on. No one wants to get to the color layer, on a modern car paint. Once you get there, it’s a pain to clear the panel again without laying down the color layers to match.
So, best advice is always the least abrasive is the best. Kind of the advantage of a ceramic coating, as once the paint correction is done, that super hard coating is harder to scratch.
