Oil Life & Oil Change
I have same concern regarding oil life percentage. The current mileage on RDX is reaching 8,000. My "Oil Life" is at 30% and hasn't changed in some time. Wondering if maybe there is a problem.
Has anyone else's milage been that high before the first oil change?

My oil life is just went to 50% and I have 4200 miles about 20/50/30 urban/suburban/highway. I really try to not make any trips shorter than 5 or 6 miles so everything warms up completely.

I'm at 3300 miles and mine is at 50%. 98% of my miles are highway (work). My service tech said the maintenance reminder kicks in at 15%. As for the your question I have no answer why it hasn't moved. My only guess would be your driving style/distance.

My mi. is at 5,700 and display shows 30% and mix of freeway and local for about 50-50.

When it says 50% the oil life is actually between 40%-50%, so yours is between 20%-30%.
All owner's manuals state to never go beyond one year for an oil change regardless of what the oil life monitor says.
You are probably not too far off 15% and if mine had 8,000 miles on it I would change the oil.

Our dealer called after we had the RDX for a week and scheduled the first service for early May, about 6 months after purchasing. The dealer does not charge for this oil change, and that is nice, but I got to wondering, is there a Acura/Honda service database? If there is, can I get the RDX serviced at the Honda dealer in town will the Acura database get updated for warranty and/or lease return issues?
Thanks,
Tom

My dealer charges $40 or $50 depending on whether you want semi-synthetic or full synthetic. I've got a ways to go before I actually pay because my purchase included 5 changes in the first 2 years/25000 miles. Doubt that I'll use all of them since I'm at 50% in 4700 miles.

Mine's also at 50% with 3300 mostly highway miles. I'm used to 12k maintenence intervals so this is an extra yearly service cost.

@catbert430 ...that sounds about right for a full SYN oil change and a tire rotate.

If I owned a dealership, I wouldn’t take the risk of my service dept. getting that right and would change it on every car, every oil change. They probably service other brands, older Acura models, etc. etc.

I was wondering if they’d do the filter. Manual says to do the oil filter every other time on the “B” service. Did you request they do the filter, or was that just their policy and automatic?

since I DIY my oil changes, I do it every other time and use Mobil1 oil filter which is pretty durable. Honda filters are a little flaky, but will work also fine for 2 oil changes.

Currently at about 4,200 miles (50city/50highway) and am at 15% oil life as of yesterday. A lot of hill driving since I live in Seattle.
Here are the parts for the Filter & Washer:
I usually buy mine in packs of 8 or 10 to get a discount, and buy bulk on Mobil 1 0W-20 from Walmart when it's on sale + apply coupon/rebate.
For example, I got a pack of 8 for $25 total ~$3 a piece, and Mobil 1 0W-20 comes out to usually around $10-12 for 5-qt jug. Oil changes for me cost about $15 or less on average.
One really good thing about this RDX is it's very easy to change the oil & oil filter.

My car has been at 30% oil and my mileage is 3700. Am taking a long road trip next week so wondering if I should preemptively take car in for first servicing? I had to cancel the 6 month appointment my dealer made for me last month.

that seems awfully low for the mileage, I have over 5000 and I’m at 40%. Do you do a lot of city driving?

I am wondering because in a few weeks, we are taking a 1200 mile drive to Florida for a month, and then coming back. If it calls for it, I will get the oil changed down there, but I am just trying to gauge things.
