OEM cabin filter -- is it HEPA?

While looking at Bosch wiper blades, I came across this:
https://www.boschautoparts.com/en/au...s?partId=6037C

Which made me want to know -- is the OEM filter a HEPA one?

I have never seen that claim, and I'm pretty confident it is not HEPA.

But I'm not convinced the filter is adequately sealed against bypass ( airflow sneaking around the filter ) for HEPA filter media to be a benefit. I could be wrong.

It bothers me that there is no information in the manual as to how to change the cabin filter. I do it on my wife’s Accord and my daughter’s CRV, so I ammsure I can figure it out. But a two page entry is alk thatnis needed and it should be in the manual.

Get your crap out of the glove compartment and look in the back for the filter access.

But yeah, it's lame that they devote a whole page in the manual ( pg 568 ) to the existence of the Dust and Pollen Filter, and the importance of replacing it, but don't give a word or a diagram about how to replace it, which is usually a 5 minute job. Once you get the crap out of the glove compartment.

That means I will have to sit in the passenger’s seat? Oh, the indignity!

That’s where I thought it is, just like other Hondas. When I went and ordered a filter replacement from Amazon, it is the same one as a CR-V. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

Does it say if it is a HEPA filter?

IIRC in our 1st-gen MDXs, and some other pre-Y2K Honda/Acura vehicles, I had to remove the glove compartment, cut away a plastic piece and remove the frame of the glove compartment to get access to the cabin filter.

So stop your whining.

This is the internet.

Besides, when I was a kid, I had to walk 3 miles to school.
In the snow.
Uphill.
Both ways.

No, although there is a HEPA one at Amazon, I bought this for the RDX, since I use this type in my wife’s Accord and kid’s SUV and am happy with it.

Amazon Amazon

It is a Fram, Fresh Breeze with Baking Soda and carbon.

That's the filter I favor as well. Not sure how much it really helps with the stink, but every little bit counts.

For those who have never replaced a cabin air filter this might help altho this demo is not the same year nor same model as the 2019/2020 RDX.
Note: A DIY can save mucho dealer expense. Also, use the forum SEARCH feature. Type in: "cabin filter".....

This is probably the easiest DIY maintenance you can do on a modern Honda/Acura vehicle.

The hardest part is getting the new filter media installed in the reusable plastic frame, in the correct orientation.

Or maybe the hardest part is getting all the crap out of the glove compartment. YMMV

since the glove box is so small, there can’t be too much in it...

Probably Acura felt this job was to complicated for a layperson and should only be done by a Dealer ($$$). At least is not hard. My previous car required taking out 18 screws to get to the filter!
