My first RDX

Hey everyone! First post here, but I’ve been lurking and reading around for a little bit. Just picked up my first 2019 technology package and absolutely love it! I was looking for a sporty yet safe “Dad” mobile to fit myself and my two kids in and I found it. Anyways, I have a couple questions that hopefully you guys can answer. I didn’t see anything on these topics yet, but I apologize if it’s been covered.

First, is there a way to automatically have the idle stop off instead of on when you start up the car? I’m not a huge fan of that, unless someone can talk me into it lol.

Also, the headlight seem to be not even with each other. I did read that they aren’t supposed to be 100 symmetrical? Is this true? If I pull up to a wall or a car in front of me it definitely looks like my drivers side is a bit higher than my passenger side. These lights have a fine bluish line as I’m sure you know, but is the uneven thing normal for the RDX

Oh, last thing.. for you guys that tint your windows, I had a shop tell me the rears aren’t “UV rates or protected, just stained glass. Any thoughts on that? Are they just trying to get more money from me? I was planning to just make the fronts a little darker to match better.
thanks guys!

Not sure about the headlight levels or tinting, but in terms of the idle-stop, there's a button on the dash (to left of the drive mode selector) that you can press after you start the car to turn it off. (It can't be disabled completely, and comes back on the next time you drive.) Or you can drive in Sport+ mode, which disables it while in that mode.

That's right - and pretty typical. In the rears, it's usually just privacy with no real protection against the sun. I can't recall the numbers I went with on mine, but I did add tints to the rears as well as the front windows. You can do a light color or even nearly clear ceramic ones (typical for windshields) that can block up to above 40-50% of UV. If you ride with dogs or kids, or just really want that car to get cool quickly - it's a good idea to do it.

Correct, the rear doors and back windows are only tinted by the factory, minimal UV (I can tell you that from driving in the summer in Texas). I got the drivers and passenger front doors tinted with SunTek CPX 35% ceramic and the REAR windows with 70% ceramic for the UV/heat protection. Makes a world of difference in the summer, as the RDX's AC system is adequate, but not super strong.

Here is what it looks having all the windows done. Need to get a sun strip on the front windshield the next time I pass by the tint shop.

thanks for the photos! Your headlights line up well, mine seem off compared to yours lol. I’ll probably have the dealer check them out at next service.

that looks very clean!

All the windows as noted in my first response (fronts 35% and all windows behind the front doors 70% SunTek Ceramic 70%). World of difference on the heat - take it from a Texan in the summers. The Acura RDX ac is not the strongest in 106 degree Texas summers - doing them all helps out a lot. Not that much more than just doing the drivers and passenger front doors.

Headlights are the way the came from the factory. Clean - it sat in storage for 4 months while I traveled - plus I am OCD in detailing and a pro at it.

70% is essentially clear. 35% on the front passenger and drivers door is perfect. 70% over the rear windows factory tint keeps the heat out and doesn’t make it much darker. However, it’s you vehicle, do what make you happy.

Thanks, never did quite understand the tint difference’s but my fronts are state reg but still get warm. I can go really dark as I am getting a medical exemption so I can go real dark.

No way to do this AFAIK. I got used to it now and it feels good to not be contributing to pollution when waiting at a light, not to mention it allows for no vibration and complete silence during the wait.

Sounds good. Recall super dark tint may be nice looking through during a sunny day, but a nightmare at night! Mine is a perfect balance to keep the UV and heat rejection out. Personally I would never go darker and good nano or ceramic tint has very similar heat rejection regardless of visibility % and all have 99% UV protection. Nor would I tint the front windshield - as I like to see when I drive.
