Exclamation Multiple oil changes under 15k and differential fluid change at 8k?

I have my wife's 2021 RDX, her 10% maintenance went off around 6k, I thought it was early but went ahead and had it changed. Now she is at 13k and it's at 15% again, does that seem kind of soon? Mostly city driving, no dusty/dry conditions.

Also on my 2022 RDX I'm only around 8k and brought it in for oil/tires, dealer is saying it needs to have differential fluid replaced, does that seem kind of early? Almost all highway driving for mine.

A 6,000 to 8,000 mile oil change interval is normal for most driving. “Non-dusty” conditions are irrelevant. The computer uses an algorithm based on the number of starts, length of trips, etc. I’ll let someone with an SH-AWD model chime in, but 8,000 miles for a differential service does seem short.

Did the maintenance minder say you needed a diff change or was it just the dealer saying it was due? It's a code 6 IIRC. If it was the MM, I'd go ahead and do it. If it was just the dealer, I'd ignore him. FWIW, mine called for a diff change just under 11k miles.

My oil change intervals are very short b/c it's full of short trips and almost all city driving, in kilometres they are: 6900, 13,500, 20,000, 25,500, 32,000. Basically every 6-7,000km or so.

This makes sense, my wife does mainly city driving, picking up our kids, running errands, etc so her oil is closer to every 6k so far. I guess I squeezed out a bit more at 8k with 99% highway driving.

You should read https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-rdx-...report-996104/ and you will be changing your oil twice as often as what MID recommends due to fuel dilution.

Not sure what metric the RDX uses to calculate the next service. I have 13k on mine, already did two oil + filter changes and the maintenance meter is showing me “B6”, so I am sure they will be pushing a diff change the next time I go in. Kind of crazy, as that’s a ton of maintenance for 13k and two years of service. Already did the engine air filter and air cabin at 8k myself for $35 - both filters off of Amazon.

first rear diff is 15k miles, next one every 30k. This was true since Acura invented SH-AWD. Oil change of 6-7k is way big, and based on oil analysis you most likely need to change it sooner. This should not come as a surprise

Oil change even 6-7k with synthetic oil, that should last 10-12K miles. I get it on the rear diff, just a lot of maintenance IMO.

More the reason I look forward to EV's with none of those fluids to changes on ICE vehicles. Acura - let's giddy-up and get some products to market.

synthetic oil should last 12k miles, but this is GDI turbo engine that will dilute it with fuel which will accelerate wear. If you planning to get rid of the car before 60-70k miles, it probably does not matter and you can change oil every 10k miles

Circa 2005, when mileage based maintenance schedules were provided, the rear dif was 15k or 1 year, then 30k total or 1 year since service, then every 30k or 2 years thereafter. Unless you did something like drive on mountain roads (winding?), towed, etc -- in that case, the milage interval was cut in half.

My wife's 2022 RDX had the "6" code show up at ~6000 miles -- if it is done at the time of the next oil change, the MM "thinks" that that would be at about 13k miles. I will change the oil sooner (2nd change, will do at ~10k miles) but may or may not change the rear diff at that time -- it's only $26 and a few minutes of my time, so I will probably just go ahead and do it when I do the oil.
