Map Update?

Map Update?
I'm on my phone, so I can't download it anyway but when I go to the map update site and enter my VIN and map version "2019.07.08", it no longer tells me the latest version of the map is already installed. I can't confirm until I get on my laptop

Anyone confirm? Sorry if this is a false alarm.

I didn't know there was a new map update, so I'll check it out. But just fyi, I know last update everyone was saying you needed a 32 Gb USB. This isn't the case. I updated mine with a 16 Gb (or whatever was the smallest possible USB that held the update, I forget). I didn't want to go out and buy a USB just for a map update.

HEY!! STOP SUCKING MY BANDWIDTH!! I should have kept it my own little secret.
It does seem to be going faster than last time. Maybe we got in before the rush. Also, no mention of the USB having to be formatted for FAT32. I found and used the same one.

Comcrap will start capping my Internet to 1.2 TB in early 2021. This download next year if it’s the same size will be a pain. With remote learning and work from home we have exceeded 1.2 TB in a month for the last 4 months. Now the kids have to stream less YouTube and Netflix. I hate Comcast!

Just picked up my new 2021 today and the map version is 2019.07.08 so I tried to download the update but, it says my VIN is not found.
It always did that with my 2019 VIN as well.
it now accepts the old 2019 VIN and is downloading now.
I’m assuming that when I try to install it in the new car, it will refuse because of a VIN mismatch.
”here” really is a horror show.

Notice anything new?
I'll wait to install it when I plan to be driving the car for at least an hour. You can install it while driving with no loss of function.
The car has to be "on". The last time, I did it in my garage with the engine off. Leaving the car on for that long drained the battery enough to prevent the Auto Idle Stop from working for months after that. Not good.

I didn't look deeply to see if there were any differences. I did notice that the error on the map near my house (the road stops before a river and then resumes on the other side, the bridge that is there is disregarded) did not change.

Not that I’m aware of. Those updates I believe come via the HD radio. I think others have concluded that the native traffic updates aren’t as reliable as other sources, FYI.

Is there no status / progress on the car screen when doing the update? I inserted the USB and when I went to Navigation I got a brief pop-up that says "updating navigation map" but then it goes away in a few seconds. Is that normal? How do you know it's done?

Yay!! Very glad to finally get an update downloaded and installed on our 2020 RDX.
The total size on the USB drive is 15.99GB. For you Mac users the USB drive must be formatted as a good 'ol fashioned FAT volume before it will even allow you to download. It took about 2 hours to download.
The install in the car took 30 minutes. I had the car "On" but did not start the engine (not in Accessory). The only "Updating..." status message is shown when you launch Navigation. But when done the completion message pops up on the screen wherever you are.
Thanks for the heads up NooYawkuh!

I think a message is displayed when it's done. Also, when the activity light on the USB drive stops flashing.

Did the same thing I just erased and reformatted the flash drive and put the map on it. Also now my new subdivision is on the map but some of the roads are wrong since the developer changed the layout out roads, my home is there but it has everyone listed in the neighboring city which is 1000 ft behind me! I do see some of the road additions I made in HERE’s map editor! I’ll g out later and check a few on the new roads that have been added around town.

Downloaded, updated and verified it is the new version. It looks the same, hopefully works as well.
It took about 40 mts for the update process.
I put the car in accessory mode, waited for the system to boot, went to navi screen, plugged in the usb and away it went.
I went inside checked back in 30mts, clicked navi from home, it said 'updating...', came back after 40 mts and it was done.
Verified the version by clicking on Menu->Help of the navi screen.

I borrowed a SD card to USB converter and used my 64GB micro sd card, didn’t think it was going to work, glad it did.

After playing around with the new map update this morning I discovered that when you go into explorer mode you no longer get the direction arrows at the top, left, right, and bottom of the screen to move the map. To scroll around the screen you have to swipe the True Touch Pad in the direction you want the screen to move.

I don't recall ever having arrows to move the map. You always had the unnecessary step of clicking on the map to explore it. Then you had the tiny buttons on the side to zoom in and out. But otherwise I would swipe to move it, which was pointless. Like I said, clicking would make more sense.
