Map Update?

I've tried doing the update on my 2019 RDX. After several hours of trying on and off, the updates seem to be finished however there was no notification. The About box also still shows the map version as 2018.02.16. Anyone else run into this? Is this another one of those situations where you have to pull a fuse to reset the system?
I suggest trying it again while you're driving without shutting the car off. Everything will work normally while the update is installed.

2018.02.16 is the original version, so you're jumping over the previous version (2019.07.08). That shouldn't matter. But it may take longer, I don't know. Both times I updated it took exactly 52 minutes from a USB 3.0 thumb drive. It may go faster with a 3.1.

The update does not change anything drastically, it is just the Navi map update, so you are not missing much.

The lack of USB 3.0 (and a second USB port for that matter) is disappointing given the specs of the Jacinto 6EX chip from Texas Instruments that the system uses. Acura/Denso easily could have included both.

Just another data point for everyone looking to do this. I used a 32Gb USB 2.0 stick I bought earlier this year just for this purpose. I didn't have any large enough laying around the house at the time. I deleted the older map from the stick and went to HERE site to download the new map this past Monday. The download took almost 90 minutes even though I have relatively fast download speed. Took the stick to the car and pressed start button once without foot on brake pedal (acc mode). Waited until Nav screen all booted up then plugged in USB stick in slot by cupholder. "Update map" flashed on screen and the process took about 45 minutes total for me ending with "Map update complete" at the end. My flash drive does have a light so it was flashing the whole 45 minutes of downloading/installing. Shut off car, restarted and went to Map information and it shows new map version of 2020.10.XX (I don't remember the exact date of the new update but it definitely changed from 2019.07.08).

I'm on my phone, so I can't download it anyway but when I go to the map update site and enter my VIN and map version "2019.07.08", it no longer tells me the latest version of the map is already installed. I can't confirm until I get on my laptop
https://acuranavi.navigation.com/vie...KHomepage-Home
Anyone confirm? Sorry if this is a false alarm.

Also what is the cost of the update?

It's a free update. If your VIN isn't recognized, you have to contact customer support and get it added to their database.

They updated the updater too. Downloaded in about half an hour with no hiccups.

Thanks LAJ. Mine is done. Things that still surprise me...no notification form Acura that there is a new map. Unless you read this blog, I don't know how you would ever know there is an update. And, nothing (that I could see), not a bullet point, a highlight ,not a sentence about what may be included in this update.

I've tried several times but when I enter my VIN and the map database version, I get "A service error has occurred and we cannot process your request. Please contact us or try again later."

'4th Acura"-----ditto. I noted earlier today mine was done, but that was just getting the download to USB done, assuming the update would install to the car. But..then Acura happened. I also cannot get it to install to the car. I wiped my USB clean a second time, reloaded it, and I think I will just wait until someone else gets the car to successfully take the update before wasting any more time on this. Can something with this 'infotainment' system just work---so tired of it.

I had to download the update twice. First time it would not install. Erased and reformatted the flash drive (32GB USB 3.0) to MS-DOS (FAT32) and re-downloaded the update. Took 40 minutes to download and 55 minutes to successfully install. 2019 RDX Advanced.

I probably won't try this until the weekend but at least the update came a little quicker this time. Last one was well over a year between updates.
I don't really care about points of interest but I wish the traffic would work better. Traffic reporting is a bad joke.

Waze and google maps is my go to but I updated anyway from the 2019 map( wow new car with a 2 year old map) Really no problems followed the directions i dont know why they insisted ona 3.0 usb since the usb in the car is 2.0 anyway dl and intstalled it in my garage with the car on a trickle charger and updated in about45 minutes with no issues.

My update installed properly on the second attempt due to a misstep on the first attempt. I had a couple of errands to run and after starting the car, began the update before backing out of the garage. My passenger went into the store and then when finished with the errands, parked the car in the garage never shutting the engine off until in the garage. I turned the engine off and got out of the car. I checked on the update a bit later and found it aborted. After digging around, I think I would have been ok if after stopping the engine and before opening the door, had pressed the turn on button without my foot on the brake which would not have done a reset and instead put it into auxiliary model which would not stop the update (I think). I tried just going into auxiliary mode on the second attempt without starting the engine, then leaving the car, and the map update continued until finish. The instructions on the web site did not go into this level of detail.

The here system is so janky. The server stalls repeatedly and, the progress will say, “part 163 of 1005” for example. There were more than 1,500 of 1005 by the time it finally finished downloading. Mine took nearly two hours. If Acura actually announced an update, I have to assume the here server would crash if more than three people hit it at once..
The upload to the car took 73 minutes.
I use a SanDisk 64Mb Cruzer Blade. I seem to be slower than everybody else in both directions. Maybe I need something better?

This will be my 3rd update since getting the car in Jan 2020. The download took over 2 hours onto my thumbdrive. I did it a little different this time, I uploaded it while the car was running and doing errands. The last 2 times, I just left it in accessory mode in the garage. The total time for updating the map was around 55 minutes and the car was obviously running the whole time. I was afraid I had to sit in the garage for it complete the installation, but luckily, I received the "map update is complete" notification as I was pulling into my development. This took longer than last 2 times.

LAJ, Thanks for the posting that there was a map update. If it wasn't for people like you....we would never know about such things. Finally after erasing my USB, loading it twice and failing twice to get the car updated, the third try appears to have updated the car (2019 RDX). If only Acura had a 'status bar' or something, it would make this install a lot easier...like showing how far along the update is....like everybody else does. I don't know how such basic and common things like this get missed. My update to the USB seems a lot quicker than others have noted. Maybe 10 minutes...we have 150 internet speed and are using a 3.0 USB. The upload to the car...I don't know how long that took. I just put the car in ACC mode, make sure everything is turned off that I can to keep the battery from having an issue, and let it go for about 2 hours....and voila...the update was there. What was added, changed or improved? ..a closely guarded secret of HERE and Acura.

I did find the following on the HERE site: https://www.here.com/drives
Not sure if this truly reflects what is different, but the map data collection "drives" for the USA were scheduled for November and December of 2020, which would have been after the last update. Apparently no changes for Canada (cropped from the image).

I checked the HERE site, input my vehicle's info (2020 RDX) and there is a new map update available: 2021.03.18. I've downloaded it and will attempt an install this morning. As usual, no indication anywhere on what has changed.
#115
Update of 2021.03.08 was successful. Approximate install time in the vehicle was about an hour. Even better, all streets in my area have been added - new development and some that were finished some time ago are now included.

This update is only about 2 months newer than the preceding one. I wouldn't expect much to be new.
It would be nice if the traffic reporting stopped sucking so much.

Wow. I just got a new wifi router about a month ago. Download only took about 30 minutes.
But I probably won't install it until I know I'm going to be driving for at least an hour.

Maybe I am unlucky, but I have been getting map out-of-date warnings after updating the map. The map version shown in the navigation app is indeed 2021.03.18, so not sure what went wrong...
