Making the Brakes Less Sensitive

The brakes on the RDX are pretty sensitive - overly grabby, in my opinion. I’ve heard this on other reviews as well. I’m wondering if there’s any way to adjust this to make them less sensitive. Anyone know?

I can't say I've ever noticed that. Or at least I've gotten used to it. Yes, the brakes require very little pressure, as compared to my Pilot. When I drive that, I have to remember to brake harder. But it's an older car and the brakes on it are much further into their life.

OTOH, I still haven't gotten used to the throttle. It still "jumps" a bit when I go from a standing start, brake to throttle. Being drive-by-wire, they could smooth it out I think.

Really? If anything, I've read and feel the opposite -- it is refreshingly noy grabby, as seems to be the trend these days.

During my test drive, I had to lay into the pedal to get it to stop hard enough; I was worried my wife would hate it, but I think it was just the demonstrator model.

i do notice that the more people in the car, the more pressure you need.

Try getting them to apply an update to the brake pedal feel http://www.urvi.net/forumfiles/SB/B19-022.PDF

I prefer my brakes to be less grabby as well and had them electronically adjust it.

Thanks - I’ll bring that issue up to the dealer when I bring it in next month for LKAS issues. nice to know it seems to be something easily adjusted. But isn’t the service bulletin you cite for the opposite issue?

I believe there have been two different versions of "improved" firmware for the brake controller, under the TSB cited. The second version replaced the first. But whether this firmware is required ( or applicable ) may depend upon the build date of the vehicle.

The complaint with the original firmware is that the brake response is sluggish, as in requiring a lot of pedal travel before anything happens. The brake booster is electrically powered in this vehicle, not vacuum powered, and it is computer controlled.

But you're saying the dealer "adjusted" the brake response independent of firmware revision? Or did they apply the early firmware? Strange.

Personally, I prefer a relatively linear response from my controls. If I don't want anything to happen, I'll keep my foot off the pedal.

I'm currently on "rev 1" of the firmware update, and I'll have the newer version applied when I take it in for the next service interval. Along with the laundry list of other stuff, like squeaky suspension and dashboard rattles. Not sure I'll be doing DIY fluid changes on this vehicle; I may have to pay the toll to get other stuff done.

I also find the brakes on our RDX "grabby", but only when braking from very slow speed, like under 10 MPH. Under 10/15 MPH I have to use a very gentle touch to avoid a jerky/lurchy stop.
