Keep my 2017 AWD, Tech w/AcuraWatch or get the 2020?

Hi, I am curious about any thoughts from someone who has gone from the 2nd gen RDX to the 3rd Gen ( or decided against it ) My lease is up in August and the buy out is $24161; I have a little under 25k miles on the car. I had a 3rd gen as a loaner for a few days when mine was in to get some rodent damage remedied so it was a good test drive. The new design has some advantages inside, like the extra storage and the back seats laying flatter when down, and the ride seems quieter. The infotainment set up though was still giving me pause after a few days. I did get the hang of the touch pad technique but combined with the smaller fonts on the screen, I was still having to often make multiple attempts to get what I wanted; seems distracting. My 2017, although dated looking, is much easier to see information at a glance with the two screen set up and the car runs and looks like new. A minor consideration is the substantial amount of music I have put on the hard drive. I think I can get the 2020 ShAWD with tech for around $36k which was the cap cost on my 2017.

Anyway if anyone else had or has a similar choice to make, I'm interested in your thoughts.
Thanks

Why do you lease?

If it is to get rid of the last car easily and hop into the latest model, and have all warranty repairs covered, then the answer is clear. Re-lease.

Go test the market of competitors and pick what seems right for now.

We just turned in our 2017 RDX AWD Advance lease. It was my wife's car. With the $3K loyalty rebate being offered, and the lease incentives...her payment is lower on the 2020. She loves the 2020. The tech on the 17 is dated, no Carplay and slow. We rolled over her unused miles. It was a no brainer for us, we don't miss the 17.

Thanks for responding. I leased because it was my first SUV and I wasn't sure I'd still like it after 3 years; but I do. I plan to purchase this time so just deciding which one.

Thanks I appreciate the response. Acura does seem willing to deal on the new RDX

I did not own a 2nd generation RDX....let me make that clear...so my thoughts are just some observations I made looking at them and driving them a few times. We had CR-Vs up to the 2017 model. We were happy with the CR-V's but I wanted the RDX. I took the wife out in the 2nd. generation of the RDX several times but she just couldn't justify the upgrade from the CR-V. In fact she once said, "Why would I get the RDX when I like the CR-V better and it cost less?". This was when we had the 2017 CR-V and compared it to the 2017 RDX. When the 3rd generation of the RDX came out and I took her over to look at them and then take one out she fell in love. That 2017 CR-V got traded in pronto for the new RDX and we have never looked back.

So, while we never owned the 2nd. gen RDX I had spent a lot of time looking and driving them. Once the 3rd gen hit the dealers the game changed and we own one. End of story, YMMV.

I’ve never seen Acura put so many incentives on a car that wasn’t going to be redesigned. It’s a no brainer to get a new one plus you will not have to worry about not having a warranty and other maintenance items for a while

The 2nd Gen RDX, including, your 2017 RDX, was based on the 4th Gen CR-V (2012-2016) so it is/was a very old design, and when compared even with the current Gen CR-V (starting with the 2017), is obviously outdated. Like Hans471 mentioned, and from my point of view as well, the 2017 RDX didn't even compare well against the 2017 CR-V, except for the V6 engine in the RDX, but as far as features, the 2nd GEN RDX suffers.

The current (3rd Gen) RDX, is a total re-design, not based on CR-V, and includes many features not even available on the 2017 RDX..

Thanks to all who chimed in. I appreciate the perspective. I'll go drive a 3rd Gen with SH-AWD and be prepared to be impressed

Find a curve, preferably on to a highway, stomp on it and hang on. You can feel the power go to the outside rear wheel and push you around the bend. Too, change the screen in front of the driver to show the SH-AWD power allocation to each wheel.

I went from a 2017 Base AWD RDX to a 2019 Tech AWD RDX in August of 2019. I really liked my 2017; the power, the mpg, the exterior design (even if it were a tad plain). But I will say, my 2019 is leaps and bounds ahead. I get around the same mpg, maybe a little less even though it’s a turbo 4, but the tech, design, handling, materials, etc. is far superior. I would definitely go with a new one. I have had zero problems with my 2019 after 26,000 miles besides the recent fuel pump recall which my dealer fixed in an hour. With my 2017, I had the infamous squealing brakes that were replaced around 1,500 miles and would intermittently come back. My last RDX was the longest I’ve ever owned a car (27 months) and my 2019 I will definitely keep far beyond that. It’s the first time I haven’t gotten the 2 year itch to trade it in, which says a lot for me.

That's a steal. I paid close to $42k for mine. But was when it had been out just a few months.
