Jack Points

Hi All, Just traded our 2020 TLX in for a low milage Certified 2023 RDX. Nice ride so far. Looking for info on the jacking points. Research shows pads in center rear & center front. But there also seems to be some type of pads (more like a large tab) behind the front wheels & in front of the rear wheels, Research also suggest that those are for jack stands which suggest that they will carry the load. All I want to do is raise one wheel at a time. Anyone ever use these tabs for raising just one wheel? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks !!!

If you are looking to only raise one wheel at a time, then use the recommendations in the owners manual for using the jack points behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels as you have called out. I use them all the time in my garage when I am rotating tires or swapping out seasonal snow tires and all season tires. Depending on your jack and it's lift ability you may be able to jack up one side of the vehicle enough to be able to rotate front to back without having to move the jack. Jack stands, if you have them, are always recommended. for safety.

My independent service shop uses the jack points in the manual. It does supplement things by using a hockey puck with groove in each of the lift points. The hockey puck fits into the metal “cup” of his lift. The groove goes where the lift point is on the vehicle. I used to do the same thing when I personally did work on my Porsche because this was recommended by Porsche in a newsletter.

Yea I had checked the manual for jack points and the long TAB looking things...( for lack of a better term)...look nothing like the manuals drawing. I'll go with those tab things and hopefully I won't send the jack through the floorboard...lol. My old butt doesn't fair well climbing underneath vehicles these days to use the mid - placed pads. Climbing under ain't bad, it's getting back up. All this cause my wife decides to curb one of the brand new looking wheels the first time she's out with it. Now you know who gets to repair it. Yes....we're still married....lol THANKS again to all for the suggestions !!!

The only way to be more descriptive is for Acura to send out a tech.

LOL....You must work for Acura in their Manual design studio. But you are correct. An actual picture of the points would be much better because it's hard for most home wrenchers like me that have lifted hundreds of different vehicles up on jacks to think that those are actually the points due to their small and unusual structure for a jack point. Me thinks that most home mechs. with a lot of exp. would look at the manual and say...."You've got to be kidding"....which would leave them to search for opinions just to be sure. Plus, those points don't look like they support the laws of physics very well...lol.

Actually I didn’t even look at the manual but my 55 years of experience as a mechanical engineer and years of working on personal vehicles guided me. You are suffering from analysis paralysis.

It's been a while since I've put a non-Acura up on the jacks but aren't all jack points more or less the same? It's basically a pinch weld of some sort with a flat edge to it.

Came here to comment that pinch weld is the correct term for these jack points.

Also, Harbor Freight sells jack stands with the hockey puck built-in. Gamechanger.

Just get a good 2.5-3 ton HF Jack and use the middle front and middle rear jack points.
I use a scrap piece of 4x4 when I use the rear one.

Typically the front & rear center lift points are used when ultimately the vehicle will be held by jack stands (or similar) at the side pinch points. As an example, when I wanted my Porsche up on all fours, the car was raised at the middle jack points with a hydraulic jack and then I positioned the jack stands. One should not put total trust into a hydraulic jack.

Oh no, I wasn't saying just rely on the jack! I just meant for lifting the car up, guess I should have specified better!

Most of us are too old to take that chance anymore LOL!
