To Hyperdip or NOT?

Hi all,

So, I am currently leasing a 21' RDX Aspec. I still have 1.5 years left of my lease. Originally, I was planning on dumping it at the end of my lease, however, that may not happen with the way the market currently is. At tis point, I am on the fence about buying it or not at the end of my lease.

I am seriously considering hyper dipping the emblem, RDX, SH-AWD, ASPEC logos. Has anyone done this? I am assuming that if I were to return the car with that on it, I would get dinged? It definitely looks removable, but some things look easier than they are. I never had any intentions of modifying the RDX at all, but I would love to blackout those emblems/badges on the Apex Blue...

Any thoughts?

Don't do it. If you're on the fence now about long term ownership you'll likely be off of it before the lease ends. The novelty of hyper dipping those bits will wear off in about a week.

If you end up doing it, you can request an inspection prior to turning in the vehicle so you’ll know if you have to revert the modifications and/or any damages that you would be charged for, etc. It’s cheaper to fix issues or remove modifications prior to turn in, then wait for Acura to send you a bill later. At the same time, if you re-lease another vehicle with Acura, sometimes they look the other way on things.

If you’re just doing the emblems, I think you’re safe. Acura sells black ones so they might not even notice, assuming you do a good job. And for something as simple and small as emblems, I don’t think you’ll have a problem removing it.

That being said, my preference would be to splurge for the OEM blackout emblems if that’s the extent of the look you’re going for.

That would be ideal! However, I am cheap, and a can of Hyperdip is MUCH cheaper!

In 1.5yrs, the landscape of the automotive sales industry is likely going to look much different than it does today.

That being said, this "mod" is super cheap, so if you think it will make it look better, I say do it. The biggest pain is going to be taking the emblems off (or taping them off). And it shouldn't ding you when you go to turn it back in. Honestly, they probably won't even notice, unless they're peeling or come out looking terrible, lol.

I did some de-badging and chrome delete on my 18 RLX and 19 MDX and it is still holding up after +3 years. It was a combo of plasti dip and vinyl wrap depending on the vehicle. I hand wash only and I'm sure it would hold up against automated car wash brush systems.
