Flat wireless charging pad?
Flat wireless charging pad?
I'm a bit disappointed the 2020 RDX doesn't come with or even has the option for wireless charging.. Has anyone ever looked into getting a flat wireless charging pad that can go under the center console space?
Yeah. Acura should at least made it an option. I only did a quick search but couldn’t find anything. I was looking for a non-slip type wireless charging pad and wide enough so that my iPhone can rest in it and not fall/slide while I’m driving.
The new CR-V mid-cycle update version has a wireless charger. I made my own. I took my Samsung flat one and just plugged it in to a USB port and it works fine. Now, keeping the phone on it during rapid maneuvers is another story for another day.
True but it would great to have to charge my phone for normal daily use while using bluetooth for music, messages and calls, I usually only connect my phone for android auto for longer trips for Google maps or Waze. I had the iOttie Easy One Touch Wireless Qi Fast Charge Car Mount in my last vehicle(Grand Cherokee) and it was perfect for daily use and always kept my phone charged up.
I think it would be relatively trivial to make a frame for any old flat charger so that it would fit in the under console storage area, and easily covered with the rubber mat that's there. You could get
so that you wouldn't have to be very precise when placing it, or you could just get a
(or more than one) and hide it even more.
I've thought about doing that, but when I'm on short trips I don't need it and when I'm on long trips I just plug it in anyway.

Easy, yes. Useful? No.
It is very easy to plug in and charge, and then use Apple Play if you want it. But without wireless ApplePlay or AA, it is no biggie to do wireless charging a tall.

So, I was about to buy an RDX before the pandemic ... Just about to meet my wife at the dealer to sign when she texted me that she wasn't feeling well (she probably had COVID, but we'll never know...). Anyway...
There were two things that kept me from it. The first was unrelated to this thread (the fact that the highest trim, the one I want, is EASILY the ugliest of all of the trims). The second was the fact that the X3 has wireless charging AND wireless CarPlay (and, in case you hadn't heard, abandoned their ridiculous plan to charge subscription fees for CarPlay). There is something incredibly enticing about that combo. The RDX doesn't even offer it! People will say "you have to plug it in to get CarPlay anyway" but the wireless pad is still very nice. My 2018 Accord Touring has it (how does the RDX not!?!?) and I often just toss my phone on it and use Bluetooth when I'm in a hurry, and it also provides a second power source for my wife if my phone is plugged into CarPlay.
Either way, I bet it shows up soon. We are a one car family for now (I work from home, thanks to COVID) so I'll just be waiting here on the sidelines to see what changes (if any) the 2021 model year brings.

And as to your wife’s Covid... well, I hope she’s okay and let’s all hope 2021 solves that too!

I bought one of these for my wife's phone:
Despite it being advertised as a fast charger, the USB port underneath the centre console doesn't output amperage (?) to utilize this feature.
