Fender Paint Defect - Advice?

Hi All.. I've got these odd marks on my front fender. They are smooth, but visible on the fender. It's almost like the fender has an imperfection as the paint is good on it and smooth. I'm getting my dealer to look at next week, but anyone have thoughts on what could have caused this.

That paint defect appears to be a dirt nib during the painting process. Usually these nibs are corrected by spot sanding them out. However, these would be unusual in a factory paint environment on a new OEM vehicle. These types of defects are more indicative of a post factory repair/refinish at your traditional mom & pops body shop. It’s always a possibility your vehicle might of been refinished by a body shop at least in that area or that defect came from the factory refinish process (rare). I hope this helps you out.

a few posts in the XC90 forums....where XC90s got no traction dealing with the dealership and up the chain....hired a lawyer..WHAM..they go what they were asking for very quickly. Not a huge fan of lawyers, but they can be effective.....Most people will just take what they offer and call it a day and Volvo knows that....hire a lawyer and they know ur serious.....

this....

most states don’t require dealers to report or disclose anything that happens in transport - many cars have touch ups to paint and such. Under $1000 and you’ll probably not be told. This was just a bad fix. Not uncommon to have a dealer repair but that’s a poor job!

Yes. After looking at the picture a little closer there is also a possibility this was just a bad touch up job as you have described.

I'd just ask the dealer to smooth it out.
This happened to my other new car that I bought 4 years ago. Upon picking it up, I found a couple of door dings, the Sales person was surprised that he missed it, so he arranged a dent master to come in the dealership and rented me a car for that day.

Would they have to paint the entire fender to fix this or can spot fixes be blended well?

It would depend on the body shop you select. I am assuming your vehicle’s color is white diamond pearl. I would only select a repair facility that is familiar with Honda/Acura paint systems. Since refinishing a metallic/pearl clear coat can be complex I would only recommend an opinion from the paint professional doing the evaluation. At that time the technician would evaluate the proposed repair for that fender & determine if a spot repair would work or the refinishing of the entire fender would be more appropriate.
