Curb Rash!

Hey all,

So, I took my RDX Aspec through the local touch-free car wash today. While doing so, I somehow managed to swipe the metal rails next to the machine that cleans the vehicle. Everything seemed ok until I got out to dry the car after and put tire dressing on. So much for a "touch free" car wash. I've gone through similar car washes dozens of times with no issues, so I'm not sure what happened.

I have some curb rash on the front face of the rim now. It's not horrible, but it's there and I know it, so it is bothering me. I have been doing some research on rim repair places in the area. Has anyone ever used one of these companies? If so, how did your repair turn out?

Anyway, I know it's just a car, but I'm kind of bummed about it. Maybe I am just crazy though and it's not even worth fixing, who knows...

I used one in the Milwaukee area for curb rash and I could not tell where the original damage was after they repaired it. I was very satisfied with the repair! This was on a 19 RDX Aspec.

Which place did you use? I live in Pleasant Prairie, WI. How much did it cost, and how long did you have to leave the vehicle?

Bodyshops send their rims out to the wheel refinishing shop all the time. They specialize in rims only so they do a great job. Cost about $250 Canadian per rim.

There is no quick DIY fix. Only the rim shops can get it back to 100%

If you want a quick fix just to make it less noticeable, I’ve seen some folks use the touch up paint for the gray RDX. Apparently the color is close to the A-spec wheels. Won’t be anywhere close to perfect, but can at least cover up the exposed metal.

Car washes are a terror on cars - no such thing as touch free. Find a local detailer to hand wash and it’ll be cheaper in the long run than fixing wheels, paint correction, etc.

I used “Alloy Wheel Repair Specialist of Wisconsin”. You can request a quote via their online tool where you’ll submit a picture of the curb rash. They respond with a quote. I took the RDX there and they jacked it up just outside the garaged area and took the wheel off that needed repair. They repaired the wheel while I waited and it was less than an hour in total. Mine was about $150 from what I recall (not bad considering new wheel cost and I could not tell where the repair was).

Alloy Wheel Repair Specialist of Wisconsin: 4420 S. 108th St. Milwaukee, WI (On Hwy 100 in West Allis area)
Phone: 414-367-2222

I recommend using their online quote tool for curb rash.

I paid $200CAD to get my curb rash repaired - it's basically one price no matter how much curbing since the heavy lifting is to sand blast the wheel and re-do the clear coat.

I have used a similar place a few time, you will not be able to tell it had curb crash afterwards. if they can't fix it on the vehicle - then its a 1-2 day turn around. Only bad part, is there is NO spare tire for the RDX Aspec.
Typically you can send a pic to them, call them up and ask for options to fix it. Most auto dealers use their services - as they don't want to sell a high $$$ used car with rim rash!

For me, it hurts the first time then I learn to stop focusing on it. It's too small of a thing to worry about it. I view this as wrinkles from aging.

I agree! I was really bummed the day it occurred, but I am over it now. Sure, I would like to get it fixed, but I am going to wait until next spring at this point.

For those of you that lease, do you get dinged for curb rash when you turn the vehicle in?

Sorry to hear about your experience but as a fellow car enthusiast, it’s “painful” to get road rash, rock chips, etc. While it’s true it’s just a car, it does represent an investment so we will go to great lengths to keep the car looking pristine.

My experience with these wheel repair companies is that they can generally minimize the appearance of the road rash, but not completely eliminate it. When this happened to one of my chrome OEM wheels on my 2018 Accord Touring, I have just purchased a new wheel because I knew the road rash would always bug me.

Also, I have NEVER run any of my vehicles through a car wash because the chemicals are very harsh, will usually leave etching and swirl marks in the paint.

I have a 2019 A-Spec and called the Acura dealer in Henderson. They said bring it in, give it 5 hours or so, and they would have the people they use pick it up and fix and only charge me what they are charged, no markup. For what it's worth it was a place called 'Dent Wizard' so I assume it is some kind of auto body repair shop. I was surprised at the quality work...I could not find any evidence of any damage or repair. Total cost $65.

Anyone know the paint code for the “gray RDX” that’s the closest to Aspec color wheels? I would like to try this on mine. Thanks all.
