Considering '19 CPO RDX, 21k miles, but the front brakes were replaced at 4.6k miles

Hi All,
I'm thinking of buying a 2019 CPO RDX with 21k miles. It has a clean Carfax with the maintenance done at 4600, 8400, 13,800, 19,500, and 21,400. But at the 4600 service, the dealer replaced the front brakes. How do brakes only last 4600 miles? What could cause this? Could the brakes have been defective? Also, according to Consumer Reports, brakes are a trouble spot with the 3rd Gen. Is this a known issue? Any info would be appreciated! Thank you!

I can’t speak with certainty as to what caused that RDX to have its brakes changed so early, but I got a CPO 2019 RDX in May of this year, and the brakes on it do have a whiny squeal from time-to-time in the minutes following start up.

Squeaky brakes covered under warranty. Its a known problem and easy fix. You shouldn't hear anything anymore.

So you think the brakes that were replaced at 4.6K could still need replacing at 21k? Thanks.

I searched the forum and didn't see brake issues on many posts unless I missed them. My brother's 19 RDX has OEM brakes at 30k miles. Thanks.

Several RDX Gen 3 owners were having squealing brakes. Acura issued a TSB (and a couple of updates) that included replacing the pads all around and the front rotors. I had a slight squeal, but not enough to be a bother. I casually mentioned it to the dealer when I had it in for an oil change, and they replaced the pads all around and front rotors.

I don't think you need to be worried about this early brake parts change in the car you are interested in.

I had mine replaced with only like 500 miles. The brakes worked fine, they just squealed the first few stops when it was cold. I would not expect any shorter than usual brake life as a result of this. A significant number of 2019 RDX's had this issue and it was a quick and painless fix.

I’m more curious about the services at 19k and 21k. Why two services in 2k miles?

The 21k service was the lease return inspection and probably the pre-CPO service. The only other oddity in the Carfax is "A/C expansion/orifice valve replaced" at 8400k.

it's normal practice to replace the Schrader valve, even when just checking pressure.
it's like a $.02 part.

furthermore; brake pads are a wear component...meaning; even tho they were recently replaced (because of common noise) they can still wear out by 21k.

I wouldnt have any concerns buying this RDX....
what''s the link for it, so i can buy it?

HaHa! Too late. I already have a deposit. BTW, the brakes were replaced at 4600. Thanks!

I recently started watching and following this automotive tech on youtube.

at 2:30, you can watch him replace the valves and he quips "I'll change out these valves like I always do"

which is the 2nd video that I've seen him change out the schrader valves in the A/C service ports.

The expansion valve/orifice is not a schrader valve, it's a part inside the system. It meters the flow of refrigerant and atomizes it as it flows into into the evaporator. If it clogs, the system won't cool much, if at all. Replacement requires evacuating the system and opening the line to the evaporator, replacing the part, then evacuating & recharging the system. It's a cheap part but lots of labor to replace it. Not a major job but more complicated than replacing the schrader valves. They usually don't need attention unless something happened in the system that releases something that clogs it...might have been in there since new.
