Broke the plastic interior trim while installing the cargo protector
My wife’s one month old 2022 PMC broke …..😤
Today I installed the cargo protector, all went well until I got to the rear (side) pieces. The fender trim is super soft cardboardy crap, and it is really hard to get the snaps to snap in place. The only way I could get all twelve to connect was to tap on them with a small plastic mallet. I couldn’t just press on them, like on the seat backs, which go into steel.
Busted:
I am pretty pissed, it seems like the plastic is really brittle, has anyone else had this happen? The car has been inside, the garage temperature is about 60 degrees F. I will try to get the dealer to change it under warranty, I don’t think it should have cracked unless it was defective or improperly installed.
How come you didn't get the one specific to your vehicle with the proper cutout for the 12v outlet?
The side panel is replaceable, but unless your friends with your service advisor, it'll likely be on your dime.
Thats not right and should not crack like that. I’d call it a defective, weak peace of interior trim. Take that beauty PMC edition in to Acura, and bet with some nice conversations, they’ll get the part ordered under warranty.
BTW - my 60 lb lab loves to ride shot gun, just throw a towel over the seat. Also, a rear dog seat cover works well too - $35 on Amazon.

it is a piece of plastic and he was hitting it with a mallet. That’s not how the instructions call for that part to be installed. They could also say it’s the incorrect model for his vehicle since he had to make a home made cutout for the 12v outlet.
While the dealer may replace, it would not be under warranty, it would be under what they call “good will” exchange. They typically reserve it for repeat or good customers. If he has a good relationship with his dealership, maybe they’ll do that for him.

I never said I hit the trim directly with a mallet. I hit the SNAPS on the rubber cover below it. There was no other way for them to click into place.
I never knew that there was a specific kit for my car, all the other accessories are the same, and I did not even know there was a power outlet there until I crawled in back to work…. And since the installation instructions specify that you cut out the child tether pieces, I assumed that cutting out the power outlet opening had simply been omitted. At that stage I wasn’t going to try to get a different kit. Mine was no longer returnable at that point…,
Thanks for your continued constructive comments.

No matter how much we pay for cars there are cheap materials throughout and this looks like one unfortunately. I don't view this as defective, as I have had some really bad experiences with Honda/Acura plastic parts and this looks like par for the course to me. You could explore the goodwill route but for the long term does it matter that much? Over time the dog will cause wear and tear and the car won't remain pristine for long. I can understand if you are concerned about it cracking worse over time but if it does then you can decide on if you want to replace it or not.
Yea, I wouldn't hold my breath getting it replaced under warranty. If the dealer did the installation, absolutely ... having done that yourself, I don't see them replacing it unless you get a very generous service department.

I'm sure these soft, cheap plastic parts/pieces are a big reason for all the rattles in my interior. Oddly enough, when the car is super cold when I first start it up, a lot of the rattles actually go away, but as the interior warms up with the heater, the rattles start to appear again. I'd have thought it would be the opposite ...
There are companies out there that can repair the crack. I would look into something like that as well. I’m sure it would be cheaper then replacing that trim piece. I’m
