Angry Automatic Intermittent Wipers

Hi,

I have a RDX 2020 with Automatic Intermittent Wipers. Have you tried this feature? For me, it's just horrible. In Canada, we have snow and not just rain. The Rainfall Sensor doesn't seem to detect snow. The wipers even adjusted to High sensitivity can't detect snow which means they don't go on... I have to put manually to Mist or On (in continuous) to clean the windshield. Did you experience the same issue? or it's my Rainfall Sensor that isn't working properly? Seriously, I prefer the way it was before on RDX 2015.

Thanks.

This isn't my first vehicle with automatic, rain sensing wipers. From my experience, they are fine with rain, but are quite lacking when it comes with snow. It's a good thing they aren't called precipitation sensing automatic wipers.

I have the tech, and therefore no auto wipers on this car. On my prior car, with it, I would increase the sensitivity, and when the snow melted to droplets on the windshield, it would go on.

I mean.. it IS called a rain fall sensor, not a snow sensor

I certainly COULD be wrong, but I believe the "rain sensing wipers" depend on the slight sound of the rain drops hitting the windshield being detected by the sensor attached to it. I doubt that snow makes the same sound.

But I am not sure, as snow is a foreign thing here in southern Arizona.

Rain-sensing wipers work by measuring the amount of reflected infrared light that is projected onto the windshield. The presence of water on the surface changes the amount of light that is reflected.

I've had a few vehicles with rain-sensing wipers and find it mostly to be a gimmick. I don't like how it takes several second to respond to changes in rainfall or water splashed onto the windshield.

This.

(I could never get reflected/refracted light right, but, what the heck, I was an English major. I could spell ‘em and use them in a sentence amongst other English majors. The engineering guys were not paying attention or staring at their shoes or the ceiling anyways.)

These rain sensing wipers work okay, but I usually just disengage it because to me they do not work properly, even in rain.

Thanks for the info! As I said, "I COULD be wrong" and I was! Wasn't the first time, and won't be the last! LOL

During the few times we have rain, I find them to work well, and this I am right about! haha

I had rain sensing wipers on a previous vehicle and never cared for them. I’d rather have the manually operated intermittent wipers.
