ATF DW1 Vs. ATF Type 2 question?

I went to dealer parts department and asked for 5 quarts of Transmission Fluid for my 2019 RDX front wheel drive. I just realized he gave me Acura ATF DW1 instead of Acura ATF Type 2.0 as specified in the owner's manual. Is ATF DW1 an acceptable substitute?
Thanks!
Mario

You definitely need ATF 2.0 not DW1

Did the parts dept charge you based on Type 2? What does your receipt say?

Just return it and get the correct fluid, not worth experimenting

I have a quart of Castrol Import Transmax (DW-1 compatible) that I may just throw in there to top up the 0.1qts during a transmission fluid change.

Or you could just put back in 0.1qt that you just drained -- there is still over 4 quarts of that old stuff in the transmission that doesn't drain out anyway (dry fill ~9.4 quarts). Personally, I will just buy an extra quart of ATF2.0

That's not how I read the chart.... It says that ATF 2.0 is meant for 2019+ RDX but 2018 and below utilize the existing DW-1.

For the RDX, yes ... but look at the TLX 4-cylinder and RLX from '18-'20 which used to recommend DW-1. I think DW-1 is much closer to ATF 2.0 than we assumed.

I think the biggest difference might be viscosity differences, with a TSB released for the RLX about changing the ATF more frequently due to premature breakdown:

With how frequently I'll be changing the transmission fluid, 0.1qts will be a non-issue. Heck, I could probably start doing 10k mile changes with straight DW-1, or rather, a substitute and it wouldn't be an issue. Just swap the fluid out every other oil change ... an extra 10mins, if that. I won't, seeing as I bought a full case of ATF 2.0 a month ago, but I could probably get away with it.
