The current version of the RDX infotainment system software supports Apple CarPlay, if that's what you are asking. No iPhone supports Android Auto.

But the version of Apple CarPlay in the soon-to-be-released iOS 13 is superior to that in the current iOS 12. I am running a public beta version of iOS 13 for this reason.

And no current version of CarPlay supports the native "touch-and-slide" "absolute positioning" operation of the True TouchPad interface. The touchpad acts like a laptop touchpad while you're in CarPlay. But the tracking, icon selection, and overall performance seems better in iOS 13.

I don't have a clue what might change about CarPlay support in future RDX infotainment system software.

Thanks. I was referring to the current version of the RDX infotainment.

Just got a message from a reliable contact who is a sales consultant at Acura - they received the following update message from Jon Ikeda today:

“At launch, we stated that Android Auto™ compatibility would be applied to all third-generation (2019+) RDX via a future Over-the-Air (OTA) system update. Recently, we received the final software necessary to make Android Auto compatible with the True Touchpad Interface™. Our engineering team is extremely focused on integrating that software into our update format and completing an independent certification process to ensure good functionality. When these vital steps are completed, which we anticipate to be this fall, we will send out the OTA update, enabling Android Auto™ compatibility in the RDX.”

Looks like now that the new update from Google is out (and provides the required compatibility with the 19/20 infotainment systems), the end is near!

"This fall" is rather vague. And knowing how software development goes, probably more like this winter. Nevertheless, YAY!!!

It is very common for companies to only quote a season and year for a release. Heck, even Google said Summer 2019 for the new AA update.

Just as I suspected that Acura was waiting for Google to integrate with the touchpad. My guess is that the new AA project got delayed and put Acura in a bad spot since they had already advertised that it would come out soon. Then they couldn't give publicy give updates because that is bad business relationship to send angry customers over to google.

I really really hope they will also update the onboard AndroidOS version to a more recent version. v5 is 4-5 years old.

So far so good. Took a few times of connecting before they completely synced up but it seems to be working, if a bit slowly.

Will someone please take a pic of AA interface? I would like to see how it looks. My RDX is in the shop for warranty on brakes. Would like to see what I will be getting in a few days after my update.

I also have not seen any pictures so far on the interface and how it looks on the RDX.

When I tried it out I noticed that when my music app (I only tested Tidal and Deezer) is the focus for the smaller screen zone on the right, that zone doesn't show the music graphics the way it does in Apple CarPlay. Instead, it shows an Android Auto logo (along with the track information, if I recall correctly). It could be that I only used Android Auto briefly and it needed more time to import data, but I doubt it. The lack of album art in the smaller screen zone would be a very small tradeoff if Android Auto turned out not to hesitate and crash regularly in this car the way Apple CarPlay does.

Yes, that screen doesn't show anything, which is why I have been leaving it on the clock. Hopefully future updates they can do something else with the other screen, or full screen support. Don't need music are on both screens at same time though.

Stop your complaining.
You got your AA.
And applecarplay works fine. Probably better now with an update..

I was observing, not complaining, about Android Auto. As for CarPlay, we have done factory data resets after every iOS update and whenever CarPlay starts acting up too often. It works okay for a while but it always goes back to hesitating and restarting frequently.

I have used it now and like it pretty well.
I don't like the way they implemented the track pad. But I am getting used to it.

I have used AA on a 2019 F150 - which works very well.
There is one screen interface difference.
On the F150, when you have Google Maps running and you have music or a podcast playing too, there are
function buttons at the bottom. These are on the left in the RDX.
The F150 shows Apps menu, Prev track, Pause or Play, Next track, Microphone and maybe something else (can't remember)
The RDX doesn't have the Prev track, Pause or Play, Next track buttons.
So, if I want to pause the podcast, I have to go leave Google Maps and go to the podcast app.
I don't think its the podcast app's fault. Does the same thing with Amazon Music.
I know for sure that works on the F150..

I did discover that if I press the power button on the left side of my steering wheel, it will pause and play for me without leaving Google Maps...
So I have that going for me - which is nice....

Am I missing something?

I updated the system and can use Android Auto connecting by USB only.
The Bluetooth connection seems not working yet and it is not easy to operate AA using the touch pad.

No manufacturer has wireless AA yet. It's by cable only and always will be on the 2019/2020 RDXs. Ford announced its next gen radio will have wireless AA, and there's some aftermarket head units that offer it.

AA, just as with CarPlay, there is alot of bandwidth that Bluetooth has a hard time with....for now.

Bluetooth is a fancy name for a low bandwidth crappy radio, it barely handles audio, I don't know how it would ever handle video. I would guess Wireless AA would need WiFi. AA USB audio quality is a big upgrade over BT.

You MUST be connected with the cable to use Android Auto, just like Carplay.

Like someone else said, you can make and receive calls via bluetooth so google maps is the only reason to use Android Auto for me - altho texting via voice is available too, I just dont use it

Well, got an email saying that AA was now available for my 2019 Advance. Went out to the car and sure enough there was a notification that a new download was available. Went ahead and did that and saw that the AA icon had shown up on my home screen. Clicked on it and got a message that "AA is not available". Also got another email from Acura telling me to delete AA from the home screen and HUD and then re-install them. Did that, but continue to get the "AA is not available" message. Also, even though AA is enabled for my home screen, no icon shows up. Anyone else had this problem. Will go through the whole drill again tomorrow, but not sure what to do differently. Frustrating to say the least.

Should have mentioned that I did have my phone connected via USB cable to the car, so that wasn't the reason for getting the "AA not available" message.

I'm assuming you did download Android auto from the play store first, correct ?

Maybe uninstall and reinstall that on your phone. You know the drill, turn it off turn it on and try it again

Try to turn off the car, exit it, shut the door so the Infotainment is shut off, and reenter the car, turn on the Accessory Mode. Or just
without having to get out of the car. There seems to be some kind of initialization routines that take a few minutes after the Infotainment starts up. Wait about 3 - 5 minutes. Plug in your phone. If this is the first time you're setting up AA on your car, with any luck, there should be prompts on the Infotainment and the phone to go through the initial setup steps. Just allow all permissions it asks.

AA connection is still glitch at best. It works some time, and doesn't work some other time. Repeat the procedures of rebooting or exit the car to shut down/restart the Infotainment. Wait a few minutes, then plug in the phone. With many reports of the connection/start up issues, hopefully Acura pushes the fix in the near future update.

Infotainment reboot...

Whoa! I've never had mine lock up! Other than the glitches for adding AA back to the main menu, I've had no issues. If I had this happen more than once, I'd definitely take back to the dealer. That's unacceptable.

You can't. You can adjust the brightness of either mode but you can't adjust the threshold at which it changes. Mine sometimes switches from day to night when I go under an overpass. Today, it was raining and very cloudy and it kept going back and forth. Annoying as hell.

My Garmin GPSs only switched to night mode at the local astronomical sunset. My Android phone does it based on my settings.
