2022 Acura RDX

Judging by TLX launch info, the refresh will have:
  1. Digital speedo in the meter LCD, finally, a great reason to trade-in your 19/20/21 RDX!
  2. Individual drive mode - mix'n'match to your liking!
  3. Real ambient lights
  4. Optional fully digital meter
  5. Type-S likely won't happen before refresh.
  6. Updated headlight/taillight.

No. I bought my '20 because it seemed to meet my needs and I'm not disappointed in features, function or performance. The only wildcard that would make me consider getting something else would be reliability or engineering failure; something like the random limp mode issue. And if I get to that point, I'm not getting another Acura.

Agree with all the above, and Acuras various software issues have been a big disappointment, but I gotta say...man that TLX looks sweet....especially that Type S. Although I am likely not going to be a repeat Acura buyer, and believe there is a good chance my next vehicle might be electric, that TLX would be mighty tempting. Well done Acura (based on the photos and description out today).

I have to wonder if the reason we’re seeing minor and incremental progress with respect to the infotainment software on our 2019 and 2020 models is because the software developers have been balls to the wall developing the evolution of infotainment software with the upcoming TLX… No excuses for not keeping our cars up-to-date and no excuses for the bugs that we are experiencing, however it might explain a few things in terms of responsiveness and the slow progress of bug fixes… Just a thought

That make perfect sense. One can only hope so.

Yea I just saw a video and the TLX infotainment has a different track pad armrest with a different shape and feel that your arm rests on. It has a volume and tuning knob right there at the track pad. I also like the cup holders way off to the right side and not under your arm. I would like to see that make it in a 2021 RDX...

Also the impending next-gen MDX. Their new "flagship". If they screw that up, they are done.

But if they have made hardware changes to the systems for MDX and TLX, relative to our current RDXs, we may be screwed on future updates. This happened with early 3rd-gen MDXs.

I hope I'm just being a worrywart, and this possible post-apocalyptic future doesn't come to pass.

Meh. Nothing critical in there. Biggest update I'd be interested in is things like self driving functions. Even if city driving takes awhile to figure out, long distance freeway driving would be awesome to offload.

That would probably never happen.

The driver assist system in a standalone module from Bosch I think. FW is flashable, but probably only by dealership computer. So don't expect OTA update like Tesla for improvements in driving assist features. The MMC will move to the newer generation system like TLX, I guess.

Well, if true, that makes me chuckle. One of the reasons I buy Japanese cars and not German is Japanese electronics. See how that's ironic?

The one component failure I've had on my Mazda was the evaporator system air pump... made by Bosch.

The lines are blurring to where brand nationality is less and less a factor.

Assuming the right canbus hooks are there you can do a lot.

It's not just firmware or OTA updates, it's hardware. It's a suite of cameras, radars/lidars, and FSD which Acura/Honda will most likely outsource the entire thing, maybe mobileeye combined with Nividia, which is what Tesla has been doing since their gen1.

I doube the Bosch or whatever it's in RDX right now is capable FSD.

I admire what Hotz is doing. If anyone can hack out an open-source autopilot system from scratch, it would probably be him. He turned down a multi-million upside gig with Musk and decided to take fate into his own hand.

However, ML/AI requires data to model.

Tesla has billions miles of data, Waymo/Google is a distance second with 20 millions... comma.ai is about the same at 20m but unlike Waymo, which is based on Lidar, it would require far more data. They are hoping to crowdsource by literally giving away the hardware/software.

It would be years before any manufacturer adopt them offically, if ever.

Right now, they remain a third party much like the Garmin GPS vs in-Car GPS of the days.

Yep. Nothing like a classic Speedo.

What is the typical schedule for refresh? 2022 would only be the 4th year for the new RDX, not the 5th.

According to this dealer presentation screen grab, RDX isn't due for new build until at least 2023.

That looks more plausible to me.
