2019 RDX...1st year of redo--HELP

I need help, lol I have a 2016 Outback...great car..no issues....Just missing some items I now "want" such as a heated steering wheel, ventilated seats, etc etc. My wife has finally agreed that I have her blessing in getting a new car, even though she is a saver of $$$$ and just does not make sense to buy a new car when 1 has a perfectly running car.....and I really can't argue with that. In the past I have said "never buy the first year of a major change" and the 2019 RDX is a major change.....so she is stuck on that, lol I should learn to keep my mouth shut I guess, lol Any ammo I can use to convince her that the 2019 RDX (advance model) is a solid choice? She is also concerned that I have not test drove that many other vehicles..and she is right, but a fair # of vehicles that have all the bells and whistles that the RDX has, are more $$$$....Well except for the new mazda cx5 signature model that is due out in the next few weeks. I will admit Id rather pay a bit more $$$$ for a Acura....then again, mind may change after a test drive of the Mazda. Yes it prob would be wise to wait a bit on the RDX, but man, is it sharp and fun to drive. Ty for the help

save the money and keep the outback for another few years...
as as exciting as a new car is; it gets old and you'll want a newer car... plus the '19 RDX still has some bugs to work out...mainly inside cabin tech.

Take her on a test drive, see if it is really worth it to you and her. Keep in mind that you don’t need a car, you just want it. If the car passes muster, see if the deal does too. If it all works, fine. If not, patience is a virtue. Don’t make a new car the bone of contention.

Too, don’t get trapped in frugality past the point where it stops being necessary; trust me, I know. BTDT.

This car would be my car...she would drive it like 3 times in a whole year. We have test drove it twice...I love it..and I would keep it for a great # of years (like 7+) She says the passenger seat is less comfortable than my Outback....bit noiser (even in comfort mode) She just doesn't see it as a luxury car, yet it has the luxury car price. I counter with, the Lexus..bmx, are more $$$ and more $$$ to fix. I'm trying to be patient...lol

My wife is more comfortable in the RDX passenger seat than she was in the 535. Seats hit different people different ways, and for some reason, the 535 was just a bit too low for comfort, and I felt it as well. Do you think the passenger seat in the Subie is more comfortable, or is she just throwing roadblocks in the way?

Either way, she needs to get onboard before you spend $40+ K on a car, otherwise it is not worth it, IMO.

I think the biggest obstacle was me!! I sort of sprang it on her.....I had been looking/researching. My father recently passed away and we discussed cars and he was like, go and and get something u really like. Yes I like my Outback..not a single issue, but I want a few other features. I have always liked Honda/Acura..I had 3 Integras....Traded in a basic Integra for a GS..had it for a week and got it totalled off when a kid rear ended me..bought another Integra (in 2000) Have a Honda Africa twin...all my lawn stuff is Honda.....So I have concentrated on the RDX. I really dont want anything else as I think 1 one gets a great value in Acura.

I dont think I have ever sat in the passenger seat of my OB,lol Maybe in the test drive when she was driving it. The RDX does feel smaller inside, even though its like 1.5 inches wider (3 inches shorter in length)

The problems I have heard about the RDX seem to be centered on the entertainment....Apple car play freezing....the screen freezing.....So far thats about all I have heard..pretty minor stuff.

You only live once and why put off until tomorrow what you can enjoy today! Issues are minimal and these forums always tend to focus on the negatives and not the positives. I have had no issues with my tech and things like squeaky brakes can easily be fixed. It may take Acura another several months but it will be fixed with an OTA update or via a USB update but I am confident it will be resolved. Other manufacturers have all experienced similar situations. My wife and I are VERY happy with this vehicle and would buy it again without hesitation.

If you can afford it and want the enhanced features, there is no better time then NOW

i went from a outback H6 to an 19 RDX, the RDX gets better gas milege, better handling on dry pavement, more technology, and better to look at. that being said, i had 190k on my outback, it handles better in the rain, never had any major issues with it (had the limp issue with the RDX).

love both cars, but 19 RDX is definitely more fun to drive.

Just like every other positive experience, buying a new vehicle that you want and can afford raises morale and brings enjoyment. In most cases this lasts awhile, then the vehicle starts being taken for granted and becomes just another car. The bells and whistles are nice to some but are of limited usefulness to many drivers after the gee-whiz factor wears off. In my financial situation I'd probably be happy with a trouble-free 2016 Outback and would use the money for something else I needed or wanted..

My initial plan was to get the 2019 Outback 3.6R touring.....as it had the heated steering wheel and everyone on the Suburu forums say the 3.6R is sooooo much better than the 2.5. Test drove the 3.6R touring and yes it was a bit better...but didnt leave me excited to buy it......steering wheel only warmed up at the 10/2 oclock position Yes the RDX was a lot better to drive......I think if I could convince my wife that the 2019 RDX is still extremely reliable, even though its the first yr of a major change. Havent read of any huge break downs.....just some screens locking up/not shutting down......but as my wife says....its still early, lol

I would listen to your wife and wait just a little bit longer. You are already going to take a hit on the subie, so just wait and get a better sorted out RDX so that your experience will be fully positive. As for the minor issues people have been having, yes no major breakdowns but I'd personally be annoyed if my 45k car kept having the nav freeze or refuse to turn off or features getting disabled all the time. Then your wife will keep telling you "I told you so".

Then in the future anytime you want to do something like this she'll keep reminding you of this day and you'll forever be losing battles hahaha. Always remember the long game. My vote is to wait, your subie has no major issues, you're going to kick yourself in the butt if you end up with a bunch of issues and your wife (or gf) will not let you forget it.....ask me how I know *sigh*.

In the meantime use this as leverage for other things you want that she won't let you have...."ok honey you're right, I'll just wait, good idea, but can I have.....". The long game!

With the 16-way seats, it takes about five minutes to get them just right for each individual. Once done, the setting is in the memory. Maybe another trip to the dealer and fine tuning the seat for her would be worth your time. The new RDX will make you feel good. Go for it! You won't have any regrets.

Looool I learned the hard way! So I pass on some bro knowledge. People who buy Acuras tend to be more sensible so that's probably why you're getting more people saying to wait than you'd expect. Or maybe the wife did infiltrate the site, they are way way sneakier than we think hahah

Pick your battles.

Been married for 45 years, so far. Besides, you are headed into winter, so let the Subie take the hit this year.

Agree with this philosophy. Bought a new car once in November, by the time the weather turned nice enough to enjoy it it wasn't new any more.
