Does the MDX beep when locking?

I just finally brought home my wife's 2014 MDX yesterday (bought it on Saturday but they had to detail it and there was one part that needed to be replaced and it took until Tuesday for it to be ready) -- anyway I noticed it doesn't beep when you lock the car via key-fob (even when you press it twice) or by pressing the button on the door handle. It beeps when I unlock it - but not locking.

I brought the car in for service today (driving straight was not center on the steering wheel) - and I had an ILX loaner and the ILX beeps when you lock it via door handle or when pressing the key-fob twice. When I asked the service advisor he said that was normal for the MDX.

I also went through the settings on the MID and couldn't find a place to change it. Was hoping someone else could tell me if this is normal behavior or if I should bring it back in for service.

Sorry - I should have mentioned I did see that - it is already turned on. The weird thing is that it beeps when the car doors unlock - so I know the speaker is working and I know the setting is being accepted.

I also tried setting everything to Default in the Vehicle Settings but it didn't help (and I re-verified Keyless Access Beep was turned on after setting defaults).

It sounds like the answer is that it should beep when locking the car door using the door handle or the key-fob (and pressing it twice) right?

I am thinking I have to take it into the dealer again - had the car since Tuesday now and have had to take it in for service once - and now maybe a second time.

It seems like the car thinks something is not locked so it won't beep to confirm everything is ok.

I checked and all of the doors lock correctly when I press the lock button on the key-fob or on the driver's door.

I also opened and closed the hood and tailgate just to make sure it was closed.

EDIT - I also just checked the child locks on the rear doors and they are set in the unlocked position (heard that you could cause the problem if it is set in between lock and unlock). I pressed all of the "buttons" that tell the car that the door is closed and they all worked correctly, fading the lights when I pressed it.

Can anyone think of any other simple fixes I can try before I have to go back to the dealer?

No - I just checked and they blink when you unlock the car but not when you lock them.

I also found that the security light never blinks when locking the door and confirmed the alarm isn't working by locking my wife in the car, waiting about 25 seconds (the alarm is supposed to arm in 15 seconds) and having her unlock the door and walk out - and the alarm never went off.

Is there some sort of valet mode for the 2014 MDX that disables the alarm? I did a quick google search and it sounds like the RLX has a valet mode through the navigation system but not the MDX.

I searched the PDF manual too and didn't find the word valet in the manual nor did I find anything in the security settings that says you can disable it. Thinking it might be a bad hood latch sensor or something.

The manual does say that the car should beep when you press the lock button on the key-fob twice though.

Just a thought. If the alarm doesn't set and there is no "beep" it sounds as if there is some indication to the car that not all the doors are closed. Are there any interior lights on when all of the doors are closed? Do the lights come on when you open a door? To me it sounds like one of the switches is stuck.

Thanks I did check all of that - I actually pressed the little black "button" that pushes in when you close the door on all 4 doors and made sure they weren't stuck and all of them operated as expected (interior lights turn off when you press it, interior lights turn on when you let go) - the interior lights all turn off when you all doors are closed too.

Thats why I am thinking it is a bad hood latch or something else (like a blown fuse) that is causing the problem.

My MDX does sound a beep and blink the lights, when either the key fob is pressed twice or the door handle button is pressed once, to lock up the SUV.

It is highly likely that an open/close mechanical switch input to the security system, is not adjusted properly.

Looks like a trip back to the dealership is the best solution.

Took the car to the dealer today and they fixed it. As I suspected, they adjusted the hood latch and now it beeps as expected and I'll double check but I bet the alarm now arms when the car is locked.
