What's the "Real world" fuel economy improvement from 2011 to 2014 MDX?
I have a 2011 MDX with lease ending in September.
We're getting almost 16 mpg which I would like to improve upon in our next vehicle. I see the mileage specs but those don't seem to be accurate for us.
Any idea on how much of a "real world" fuel economy improvement I would see should we decide to go with a 2014 MDX?

Folks will need more information on your driving habits and if you are going just by M.I.D. or manual calculations.
I can get 17-17.5 mpg combined on my M.I.D. for my 11 MDX Adv with 60% hwy with speeds up to 80 mph. I don't think I would see no more than 1-2 mpgs better in a +14 MDX on the same stop/go commuter route.

If you do primarily city driving, don't expect a huge bump. If you do long roadtrips with your MDX, that's where the improvement will be noticeable.

Just came home from a 1149 mile trip from Albuquerque NM to Vail CO and back. Most of the miles were highway but on the back road one lane per direction highways so there were many times when I pushed the MDX to pass multiple cars going up long hills at elevations typically 8000 ft and higher, going from cruising at 65 mph to 80 mph and then back to cruising at 70 mph. In other words, this was NOT one speed highway driving on level ground at sea level. Two passengers plus luggage in a 2014 MDX Advanced with AWD.
The computer suggested I averaged 28 mpg, and my detail calculation from a full tank to a full tank at the end said 27.54 mpg. The computer got the mileage right, something I didn't expect. In my 2004 AWD MDX I would have gotten about 20 mpg, so the 2014 got about 40% better mileage!
By the way, the car was a dream on this first long road trip since I bought it.

Around town mileage is at least a few mpg higher, depending on how hard you drive around town, or hills, etc.
Open road mileage is hugely improved, as the owners reports above, and in a different world compared to the previous MDX. Lighter weight, more aerodynamic and better sealed, Direct Injection, VCM and even lighter weight SH-AWD make a huge difference. Those who have FWD get even that much better, cutting more extra weight and drag out of the system.
It is a marked improvement and I have never had anyone move from a 2nd gen MDX to a 3rd ten, and have anything but great reports on fuel mileage. No longer even a concern.

Driving a 2014 MDX SH-AWD w/ 10,000 miles. Getting better mileage on using standard regular 87 in town (last fill 23.31 mpg -manually figured vs 21.53 using 91 Premium.) Notice no difference in performance and have the IDS setting on "sport" --much better initial acceleration, while keeping the shifter in "D" mode.

2014 mdx gas mileage
Seem to be losing 1 ~2 MPG as summer season sets in with heavy air conditioning use.Was getting 22~23 MPG MDX SH-AWD in early spring with no air conditioning use. Going to try another experiment and use 91 premium again to compare MPG using 87 regular. (Strictly city driving figures) All MPG configurations done manually and not using MID calculations.

20 mpg with city driving is very good. With premium gas (93) I get only 16-18 mpg city. Also, You are right, the MID mpg is higher than the manual mpg calculated.
