still can't get over the lack of LED tail lights
in the front the 3G MDX looks like a champ, but it turns into a outdated look when the rear end gets into the picture. i mean how expensive can possibly be to have LED tail lights on a 40-50k premium SUV?
I agree that number one, the MDX tail lights are awesome and number two, it so disappointing that the brake lights are not LEDs. Especially since the previous model had LED brake and tail lights.
I will point out that the MDX is not the only car to go "backwards" with the LED brake light. The latest model MB GL has incandescent brake lights. The previous generation model had both LED brake and tail lights. Honda and Toyota, as well as the Mazda CX-9 have also "gone backwards". Audi has always been a leader in LED tail and brake lights.
Doubly frustrating for the MDX as the new tail lights really are beautiful.

Going backwards could be a sign that there is no reliable LED light yet? Kinda wonder. Standard lights are probably more reliable? Could be that LED lights are being replaced under warranty at some high rate as compared to standard bulb. Just a guess.
What I have noticed with aftermarket LED lights are that they change design very often. So if your bulb stops working after a year, you can't find a replacement w/o having to buy a new pair. Anyone having experience with changing out LED lights more often than standard bulbs?

From what I’ve seen LED reliability lies with the manufacturer. For example, I see Dodge Chargers/Avengers with their OEM tail/brake LED’s out all the time, so whoever makes theirs makes them for cheaper than, say, the brand that Audi uses. This also translates to aftermarket bulb replacement manufacturers. LEDAutomotive and many of the LED bulbs on Ebay are junk. SuperBrightLED’s and VLED’s others are pretty good. Above them are companies like Luxeon, etc.

I’ve been buying LED bulbs for a few years now, and it’s true the designs have changed. I have to say the quality has greatly improved in time, the bulbs you buy from VLED’s now are better quality than what they started out selling. Of course, the price has gone up too. But any decent pair of tail/brake LED bulbs are $50/pair in my experience, so buying a good pair the first time around is important. From what I’ve seen since the aftermarket LED market has widened, the design evolution has slowed a bit.
